Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 01:58 PM by elana i am
one life to live and all my children have been cancelled.

i'm kinda addicted to general hospital at the moment. i used to watch years ago during high school and college, and started up again when i was laid off 2 years ago. i don't see it lasting that much longer either. maybe 2 years.

1. "The Chew"???
They couldn't come up with anything better than that? Interesting premise, but the title to me is a turnoff. After The View, watch The Chew, I guess.

5. i know! i can't speak to the writing of the cancelled soaps
since i didn't watch them but i can't imagine it could be any more lame than what they plan to replace them with.

2. I used to be addicted to the soaps
but I drifted away. Every once in awhile I checked out AMC. It is kind of sad to see the "end of an era" so to speak.

I feel sorry for all those performers, writers, and crew now out of work like so many others.

7. That really is awful.

They could have at least had someone from the network make a general announcement to the casts. Also why did they make all the AMC actors/actresses move to California from NY, when they just ended up cancelling it any way?

Another look at heartless corporate bastards at work.

3. yes, i hate ABC , i'm going to miss Erica , Vicki Dorian etc
even if i didn't watch the show regularly it was always comforting to see these people you grow up with if you ever did happen to be home during those hours.

my problem with cancelling the shows is they ruined the shows first. the shows weren't as good as they use to be . i think if they had better writers the shows would still have done well and wouldn't need to be cancelled.

6. gh is pretty sucktastic these days
but it'd become a habit again, and there are still some beloved characters on there that i would miss if i quit watching. even with the sucktastic writing i always thought gh had the best actors. i *heart* tony geary, jane elliot and maurice benard.

8. It's been many years since I did...
...but that's still kind-of a shock to me. I thought they would run forever. :(

GH was my main daytime soap all those years ago, but I got into OLTL also because I would catch the last 20 minutes or so after getting home from school and waiting for GH to start. Never watched AMC because it started too early in the day. Still, very sad. Perhaps the era of the soaps is drawing to a close.

10. I have watched AMC for 30 years!
All of my soaps have been canceled over the years. Maybe I'll start watching GH before they decide to cancel that one, too.

 It's a sad day for soap fans.

13. I watch all three ABC soaps on SoapNet every night
I call them my 'unreality' TV and they're my guilty pleasures after a long, hard day. I'm SO bummed about the cancellations; not AMC which has gotten so boring lately, but definitely OLTL. And we DO NOT NEED more lifestyle/reality TV; it's all over everywhere already. Blech.

14. SoapNet's closing up shop in January 2012...and look what's replacing it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOAPnet

<<On May 26, 2010, Disney-ABC announced that SOAPnet will be closed sometime in January 2012 and be replaced completely with Disney Junior, which will be the rebranding for the current Playhouse Disney block on Disney Channel and be set up as Disney's competitor to Nick Jr..<1><2> Reasons cited for the discontinuation include the continued fading of soaps entirely on broadcast networks (ABC is cancelling two of its three soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live, at around the same time they are closing SOAPnet) and the growth of video on demand and digital video recorders negating the need for a linear channel devoted to the genre (all of the network's current era soaps except for The Young and the Restless are also on Hulu, which is owned by a consortium that includes ABC and NBC, while Y&R streams on CBS.com).>>

15. You know who is really going to be affected by this?
The elderly, who watch "familiar" shows every day. :(

16. Yep.
My dad, after he retired, never missed an episode of All My Children. He could tell you who was doing what to whom and how often and where.

He had his favorite storylines, too.

17. Husband's grandmother is close to 90 and still keeps up with her "shows".
Gah, I guess she'll be stuck with Drew and the Price is Right. :silly:
