17. I met him once,
after a performance.

A friend knew him and introduced us after the show, I didn't have any idea that he was there. He talked to me for awhile. I was completely tongue tied (a first for me) and probably came of as pretty dumb, but I think he got why. And celebrities don't impress me at all. He is just soooo nice, and emanates more gravitas and kindness than anyone I have ever met.

Incredible man. Incredible talent.
.
.
.
I would have LOVED to have spoken with him for awhile after the performance (it
wasn't a big audience -- maybe a few more than the usual "celebrity poet" poetry
reading, but (and I'm drawing no parallels with YOU, Zorra :)), he was almost
IMMEDIATELY swarmed by 4 or 5 women who were just as intense and just as
obvious about their intentions as any rock-and-roll groupies ever.
.
.
.
I don't know whether he indulged in that opportunity, but I know he COULD have
partookened his brains out.
.
.
.
He WAS a devastatingly handsome man.
.
.
.
And GEEEEEZZZZ... it was John FREAKIN' Trudell!!!!!

157. I love him too, maybe we can have a thread on him!
I first heard his music off someone's cassette, which was being copied and passed around, then I saw him live amazingly close to where I lived at the time.

It's his music and poetry put together, it's just poetry, it's what his poetry is saying, it's the calm powerful presence he has, it's all these things together or separate.

40. Famous conductor.
In 1968, he was conducting the Houston Symphony and chasing Mia Farrow, who had just become a huge movie star with "Rosemary's Baby". She also happened to be married to Frank Sinatra and separated from him at the time. Previn was married to Dory Previn, who wrote the theme to "Valley of the Dolls".

I was going to the Symphony a lot. I was in junior high. Symphony Board looked pretty stupid because they thought Mahler and Nielsen were too radical to play. Funded by oil money. Money but no taste. They fired Mr. Previn for his indiscretions with no notice.

I was told that in the 1990s, the Symphony Board hired a gay conductor, Christoph Eschenbach, specifically so there would be no more skirt-chasing scandals.

71. I met him once.
He was my conducting professor when I studied music in Cincinnati - he was assistant director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra at the time. He was quite arrogant. I guess he thought teaching a bunch of music majors was beneath him. But, I will admit to a crush on him at the time. An amusing story (?) - he dated a student in my class while he was our professor.

It figures that I would like the characters who were played by really intelligent and educated actors. Both David McCallum and Ross Martin were brilliant men who would have been successful at any career they choose. It's a shame that Ross Martin died so young - he should have had a much longer life.

62. I'll go through my current crush list
The ones that are most unknown are soap stars Sharon Case, Adrienne Frantz, Elizabeth Hendrickson, and Yvonne Zima. Also singers Kelly Ogden and Matisse.

The others seem to be at least moderately known (like Alison Sudol, my newest crush Alison Brie, and Alison Lohman) to very well known (like Kaley Cuoco, Zooey Deschanel, Natalie Portman, Salma Hayek, Amber Tamblyn.)

Here he is now....still spacing out.
Awesome post in political videos:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=385&topic_id=572205

My God -
*Ian is my god - how I remember him*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh0woT7NkKI

People -- what have you done --
locked Him in His golden cage.
Made Him bend to your religion --
Him resurrected from the grave.
He is the god of nothing --
if that's all that you can see.
You are the god of everything --
He's inside you and me.
So lean upon Him gently
and don't call on Him to save you
from your social graces
and the sins you used to waive.
The bloody Church of England --
in chains of history --
requests your earthly presence at
the vicarage for tea.
And the graven image you-know-who --
with His plastic crucifix --
he's got him fixed --
confuses me as to who and where and why --
as to how he gets his kicks.
Confessing to the endless sin --
the endless whining sounds.
You'll be praying till next Thursday to
all the gods that you can count.

peace~

156. "that almost nobody else does?" ...Wes Studi
Edited on Sat May-07-11 05:02 AM by Duppers

or Daniel Day-Lewis or any character from Last of the Mohicans, for that matter, but you said that 'almost nobody else does'....so, that'd have to be Wes Studi, a full Cherokee. I LOVE his VOICE. ;)

159. Oh, okay. I've been avoiding this, but...Harry Anderson.
Back in the day he was a big crush. Now he's rather a mystery. He left show business to live in New Orleans and run a club there, and after Katrina tried to be a force for good, but I think it kind of kicked his ass. He's now in small politics in Ashville, NC. But in the Night Court days I loved his geekiness, and for some reason I am a sucker for a magician.
