I think I was about 11 when a friend pointed out that Vermont and New Hampshire are two states with the same basic shape, 69'ing each other. Decades later, that image is still stuck in my brain ;)

16. A jaded cabin attendant once said to me...

It was 6 a.m.
I was the flight engineer (TWA), she was 'A' hostess (That's what we used to call them) working the first class galley and first class cabin.

We'd just come out to the bird.
Me to start the pre-flight inspection, she to set up the galley.
TWA was notoriously hard on cabin attendants. They had to constantly threaten strikes (and sometimes actually 'pull the trigger') to get the smallest work concessions.
The pilots sympathized with them and supported them, at least back then we did.

I'd worked with her before and she was one of my favorites.
Unflappable, very capable.

"Mornin'", I said.
"What brings you out at this early hour?"
(Tongue-in-cheek)
"I dunno. Crew schedule decided to give me this shitty dawn-patrol trip, so I thought I'd come to work. Ya know what? I fuckin' LOVE this company, and this company LOVES fuckin' me."

I still laugh every time I think about what she said.
