ranch life tales # 87-4317709 |
|
So, the dogs have been fighting a few ticks in their ears for the last couple of weeks. Why, I don't know, usually ticks favor wetter times it is dry as hell this year. Again. Anyway, all the usual ear scratching, head shaking, walking around with one ear held low etc etc. I can see them in there but none of these dogs are going to let me get the hemostats or a pair of tweezers in there to get them. Tried all the organic home remedies and will be going for the heavy duty toxic shit as soon as I can get to the feed store.
With this in mind, everybody is a little grossed out and touchy about the issue. The youngest son just came into the living room, obviously pissed off from being prevented from sleeping (kid is working hard labor these days). Says tersely "There's one in my ear!" so I get the flashlight and some tweezers and tell him to lie down. Looking past the need for a freaking q-tip, boy!, I see something and it starts wiggling - he says "Hurry up" in a panicky voice so I say hold still and go in for the grab. Got it. It was just a small brown beetle.:eyes:
Because you know, ticks in your ear are disgusting, but other insects? meh:rofl:

2. I dread getting one in my ear |
|
because nobody in this house is competent to get them out except me and I cant see in my own ear! No, I have to suffer the embarrassment of going to the Doctor!
I have had two in my life and it is REALLY annoying. My Mom got the first one out when I was younger, but the last one was a few years ago and I had to go have it taken out by the local Doc because the husband was too squeamish to do it.

4. Now, instead of an earworm of "Tick in a Box"... it's gonna be "Tick in My Ear". |

7. Oh, Kali, I feel for you |
|
I had a chow chow, who, when I brought him from AZ, had ticks. He was still a pup and learned patience with that, as I would search him from head to toe each day, sometimes twice. I am sure you have tried stuffing lavendar soaked cotton in their ears. Again, I know your trials, to a much lesser extent though. Also, I understand the need to resort to stronger chemicals, just be sure they get plenty of fluids to aid their kidneys with that crap. Good luck.

8. I think it is time to get Advantage Plus. |
|
I have used it on my small dogs for a couple of years and they have no adverse effects.
