THE Ohio State University: Uh oh
Looks like Jim Tressel didn't quite get on evidence of wrongdoing by his players quite as soon as possible.

NCAA: Tressel lied to hide violations

In a sharply worded rebuke of Ohio State's Jim Tressel, the NCAA on Monday accused the 10-year coach of withholding information and lying to keep Buckeyes players on the field who had accepted improper benefits from the owner of a tattoo parlor.

. . .

The NCAA and Ohio State say the case against the players is closed.

It was only when Ohio State began appealing the players' suspensions that it uncovered the emails, leading to Tressel ultimately receiving a five-game suspension and a $250,000 fine. Smith said last week that the fine given to Tressel - who makes around $3.5 million a year - would not cover Ohio State's costs of the investigation.

What I like about the story is that it was only when the university started looking for exoneration that they stumbled across Tressel's . . . lackadaisacal response. But, since he won a national championship all will probably be forgiven. As soon as someone can be found to pay Tressel's fine. After all, he's just a public servant on a government salary.

1. I'm SHOCKED! SHOCKED, I say!
That a college football coach would EVER do anything underhanded to keep his players on the field.
