Poly Styrene of X-ray Spex Rumored to Have Passed Away

While we can't confirm anything yet, according to her Facebook page, UK punk icon Poly Styrene, 53, passed away today.

The X-ray Spex's singer, whose real name is Marian Joan Elliott-Said, was diagnosed with cancer two months ago. She just released her solo album Generation Indigo in March. Today, her Facebook page filled up with condolences and posts by people who were also trying to confirm the sad news. We're trying to get confirmation via her publicist, but have not heard back.

Poly Styrene's latest update on April 19 said, "Slowly slowly trying to get better, miss my walk along the promenade. Would be so nice to sing again, and play my new album live. Its nice to have something positive to look forward to, Love Poly X"

Once upon a time I had the original green-vinyl UK 45 of "The Day the World Turned Day-Glo." Shit, she was a bit younger than I am.....
