My mother paid $2 gallon for gas last week.
My mother's local grocery store is Giant Food (it's based out of Maryland). If you have a Giant Shopper Card (that free thing they give away) and check the back of their weekly flyer - they have stuff for sale that if you buy so much you can points off of the gas at their gas pump (here in Wilmington you use a local Shell Gas station).

The stuff you have to buy is useful stuff (mind you, I have enough TP in my house to wipe an army of asses - they tend to have TP on there alot). Last time I looked there was alot of paper products

http://giantfood.shoplocal.com/giantfood/Default.aspx?action=browsepageflash&storeid=2600654&rapid=1158215&pagenumber=1&prvid=GiantFood-110422&promotioncode=GiantFood-110422

I'm looking at this weeks flyer and the things you have to buy include Pancake Mix, Oatmeal, Dog food, OJ and bottled water. For every 100 points you earn you get 10 cents off your next tank of gas (up to 30 gallons).

Also, I found that if your local BJs has a gas station, it's usually 15-20 cents less for members.

1. We shop at Food Lion and the food is much less expensive for us.
Unless we drove semi trucks and had to put 200 gallons in each week, we would not save anything by getting gas discounts at Giant.

2. safeway does that out here (and frys too) and some even have their own stations
but in my case the participating gas stations are in Tucson, 60 miles away:eyes:

pisses me off, why can't they just give me a free gallon of milk or something?

4. We've got food stores that offer similar deals, but I never knew it would make so much difference.
I'm going to check that out, because that was an great deal. Even though the price is going down again at several venues. I'm glad you were able to get $2 a gallon gas anywhere.

When it dropped to that level a while back, the doomsayers were screaming the USA was entering 'stag-flation' and 'the end is near.' The price is up again, it's Obama's fault and 'the end is near.'

It was a nice break in the price though, but we knew they'd gouge us again, so now we're back up to $4, but it's dropping again.

I've taken to viewing the price of gas as a force of nature instead of blaming any one person like Obama. It's not natural, still. The ones to blame need to be starved by our moving to alternatives.

Do you guys have COSTCO stores? They are the cheapest here.

Butt seriously folks....

I haven't bought TP in about 5 years - everytime I see my mother she gives me another Economy pack of Charmin.

6. Save a tree, buy a bidet. I'm sure you'll get a rise out of it! (More like a jump...)

7. I just don't spend enough at Giant for it to amount to anything,
so have to find the least expensive 'cash only' station. BAD NEWS these days.

8. My local Piggly Wiggly has that too.
Although, they don't have an integrated gas station, so the BP in town takes their points. If you look at the screens at the checkouts, you see they have a "Pumpus Maximus" club for people who redeemed enough points to pay a penny per gallon or less. I always wonder how these people manage it.

9. Our local Pick and Saves have a similar arrangement.
I buy food at Pick and Save, the price of gas is reduced for me at BP gas stations.

I don't have a car, but I combine my purchases with a relative who does have one.
