Help me remember a Randy Newman song
You know, that one that sounds like every single song he's ever done.

Or the same exact song 1,000 times over.

I can't decide.

9. You know it was a satire on bigotry, right?
He said that if he wrote a song about how unreasonable it was to dislike people because of the color of their skin, it would get relegated to the dust bin that such "serious" songs end up in. So he wrote a ditty, tongue in cheek, and expected the audience to get it. Unfortunately, many didn't, and some height-challenged people hated him and some natural born bullies took it as a way to bully to a catchy little tune.

Now, in this age of political correctness, satire is an art that goes to the dust bin right along with those serious songs, and people sing about simple things that no one will have to think about.

16. Oh I appreciate good satire
And I know it wasn't to be taken seriously but it was neither clever or amusing in my opinion . Just irritating.

3. My FAVORITE Randy Newman song:
.
.
.
"Americans dream of Gypsies, I have found
and Gypsy knives and Gypsy thighs
that pound and pound and pound
and African appendages
that almost reach the ground
and little boys playing baseball in the rain."

4. Short People....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFmv22ghzQw

Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason to live

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
Tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people round here

Short people are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's a wonderful world)

Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody to love

They got little baby legs
They stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time

Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people' round here

13. I listened to that song a lot after Katrina
What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away

President Coolidge came down in a railroad train
With a little fat man with a note-pad in his hand
The President say, "Little fat man isn't it a shame what the river has
done
To this poor crackers land."

10. The tunes are often similar, it's true. But the words are astounding, and sometimes very brave.
Louisiana 1927 is pretty much an anthem these days in NO, and Sail Away is as heartbreaking a song about lies and promises and the evils of the slave trade as any song...wait, IS there another song that addresses that?

15. Maybe, but in that regard he's kind of like a Neil Young
I'd rather puncture my eardrums with a jackhammer than listen through a whole album full of Neil Young's voice, no matter how poignant or powerful his lyrics.

14. Baltimore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rcSb8LgPQc

Beat-up little seagull
On a marble stair
Tryin' to find the ocean
Lookin' everywhere

Hard times in the city
In a hard town by the sea
Ain't nowhere to run to
There ain't nothin' here for free

Hooker on the corner
Waitin' for a train
Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk
Sleepin' in the rain

And they hide their faces
And they hide their eyes
'Cause the city's dyin'
< Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/Fe89 >
And they don't know why

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to
live, just to live

Get my sister Sandy
And my little brother Ray
Buy a big old wagon
Gonna haul us all away

Livin' in the country
Where the mountain's high
Never comin' back here
'Til the day I die

Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to
live, just to live

19. "Political Science" is my favorite too
No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too

Boom goes London and boom Paris
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono babe
And there'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now

23. I had a roommate in Pennsylvania who was the singer for a REALLY successful cover band.
.
.
.
He was an impressionist and could do Joe Cocker better than Belushi
and sing all the notes Robert Plant could only reach in the studio.
.
.
.
He also did a solo act with an acoustic guitar (his agent talked him
into "pretending" he had a backup band by recording tracks on a drum
machine. I told him he might as well not be playing HIS guitar, either...
as it could have been part of the recording for all anyone really knew.
Six months later, when his gigs had dwindled to almost nothing -- he
finally realized what a mistake THAT was).
.
.
.
Anyways, he did an INCREDIBLE solo version of "Rednecks" and claimed
(to my great astonishment) that nobody in ANY bar crowd had ever tried
to kick his ass because of it -- from either side of the equation.
.
.
.
He was both an incredibly courageous and an incredibly foolhardy performer.

when all the music for Family Guy is by Walter Murphy, the man responsible for this horrendous piece of shit

A Fifth of Beethoven

To cleanse the palate here is Beethoven's 7th, second movement, no disco
