super cute pic - baby bunnies in backyard next |

Hare ball: Baby bunnies snuggle together in their nest in the backyard of a Lancaster, Pa., home. The six are almost ready to venture out in search of vegetable gardens to plunder. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/g/a/2011/04/26/dip.DTL

My big kitty of yore, the late Mr. Ticket, brought a baby like that into my parents' house one night. He held it like a kitten, by the scruff of its neck, but its thin skin had torn about 3/4 of an inch. I put the baby in the bathroom sink, put some polysporin around the tear, and sewed it with white thread, then put the baby rabbit out at the edge of the little woods next to the side yard where we had seen the rabbits at dusk previously, and kept the cat in. I hope the mother rabbit took over from there; I think the stress of staying in a box might have been worse.
Mother rabbits have a puff of fur on their chest which they pull out to line the nest. To kindle mean to give birth in rabbit breeding language. So, 28-32 days after a some rabbit 'nook'-y, the mother 'kindles' - ;)
