My friend of 50 years died yesterday. I'd known Dave McGowan since grade seven.

He was one of the "Fearsome Foursome" the term by which he, Carlos, Dave 2, and I were known. McGowan and I were estranged for more than a quarter of a century due to my opposition to the war in Viet Nam. He had enlisted and served as a gunner in the 1st. Calvary. His chopper was shot down in 1970 and he lost a kidney from shrapnel wounds. We got together in 1991 and agreed to disagree about the war. Dave had a number of strokes over the past year. Yesterday one killed him.

I'll miss my friend.
