After a rotten, rotten week, Aretha Franklin appears on The View and makes me feel MUCH better!
Okay, this week's been crap. Without going into it, I was accosted in public by a stranger who loudly insulted me about my zaftig appearance, and it just got me. Bad. I've been down and the whole "show us your papers, Black Man Who Presumes to Be President" fiasco hurts like hell. And I have relatives all over the South and have been tag-team checking on everyone while reading on DU and other "liberal" places what a terrible place the South is and how (pick one) ignorant, inbred, bigoted, etc. the whole place is.

Sometimes I don't feel like there's a place for me anywhere.

But then, just when I had thought the Queen of Soul, Lady Aretha, whose grace and voice and talent and dignity were about to be lost (should NEVER believe the media), she shows up on The View and rocks the house! She looks healthy, sang her ass off and I am glad!! Sometimes you has to take it where you finds it.

1. YOU made my day with this post.
Thank you. I saddened me deeply to hear that Ms Franklin was in ill health, and I so very happy to hear that she is performing and doing what she does so well. She brings so much joy to so many people, and it is good to know she's able to keep on doing it.

As for you and the pain you carry right now, I am sorry. I cannot undo any of the crap that is out there, but please know that you ARE valued.

I don't watch the View but had I know Aretha was going to be on I would have made an exception.
Damn.

4. I was happy to hear that Aretha seemed healthy at her 69th birthday party
a month ago. It cheered me up, too, having been saddened to hear about her serious health problem several months ago. I hear she has an album coming out next month!

Sorry that a stranger accosted you- it is shocking to the spirit, but I guess you have to feel sorry for someone who could be so rude.
I feel sorry for the kooks who question Obama's U.S. citizenship, it seems that they always have to have something to get agitated about, even if they have to make it up.

The tornadoes are very scary! I hope your relatives are safe through the season. My husband and I have a nephew in Memphis and I have a cousin and his family in northern Alabama so I've been worried, too.

7. Thank you. Yeah, my life is way better than his I'm sure.
And my first cousin's daughter was at school in Tuscaloosa where that thing passed about two blocks away, but all are fine.

Thanks again.
