It is not like there will be another Queen any time soon.

I remember her coronation quite well.

2. She was really young when she became Queen.
Hope she can stay around for a few more years.

3. Just turn 26
Well, she should. The women in both family lines are long lived. She's taken good care of herself - never smoked, drinks in moderation, exercises, careful diet, good health care and has a reason to get up in the morning.

Louis XIV of France holds the European record, reigned for 72 years. She could beat it. She'll easily beat out great great grandmother Victoria who reigned for close to 64 years.

4. I hope so.
I would like to see William as king, and Katy has queen in my life time.

Willian is still to young, in about 10 years he would be ready.

5. Well, Charles will have to either pre-decease her or step aside.
He's only 63 and in good health. Like mom he's taken good care of himself. On the other, he will have a short reign.

We will see.

Especially if mom goes for the European record. Wouldn't seem worth it.

8. If the Queen can go 10 more years, I think Charles might not be interested anymore.
He did get remarried.

10. Quite possible and Camilla probably wouldn't jump for joy either
She'd have to skank around as a mere duchess, not queen consort.

12. She wouldn't be happy about that.
I almost would bet that Camilla would talk Charles out of it.

I wish Diane could be there, she will be in a way.

19. Elizabeth's mum, the Queen Mother
lived to be 101 or 102 and had her G&T every day. I suspect Elizabeth will be around for at least another 8-10 years.

22. She also smoked, not much, but she enjoyed her pleasures.
She was a Scot. If they make past 50, they're good for the long haul.

Did a quick and dirty of Elizabeth's mother's, grandmother's and great grandmother's life spans: With one exception, most lived well into their seventies, two eighties. Most lived in the days of highly infectious diseases and you're on your own child birth. Each generation lived considerably longer than the previous. So yes, Elizabeth should be around for some time.

17. I don't remember it.
I was about five years old then. I understand that it was on TV. We did not get a TV until about a year and a half later.

9. In local histories the local highway used to be called the Kingsway back in time. Now it is
known as the Queensway and has been so since I've been alive. Don't know if they are planning on chageing it back when Prince Charles becomes king. (I live in Canada so we take our monarchy seriously).

11. God Save the Queen.
I watched The King's Speech, so strange to have a King not a Queen.

I really did like the movie, the King's wife did have a strong role in that marriage.

13. I believe it was in the film that George's father said his choice of a wife
would make or break him. He choose well.

Amazingly, the film stuck to the facts.

15. Amazing how we celebrate the descendants of brutal rulers of a country.
Only when forced to did they provide basic human rights.

I am in a mood for something happy so I will watch the wedding.

18. Just a reminder
Britain eliminated slavery throughout the Empire by acts of Parliament. We had to fight a brutal civil war to get the point across. By the way I still remember the "Colors Only" signs in Greenville MS. We Americans have no business wagging our fingers at other nations.

21. Have you ever seen the work that William has done, he's not your typical spoiled royal
His mom made sure of that. Harry is pretty decent too although he has a party-boy streak in him.

Princess Diana made it a point that he met with all types of people. Diana would take her children to AIDs hospitals back when people still weren't sure what AIDs was or how easy it would spread. Diana had her children meet and work with the homeless, learn about the world and all the issues going on everywhere. I know people can't figure out what purpose the Royals serve but I do see William and Kate continuing on the traditions of Princess Diana with using their title to help out charities both local and international. And Will's dad wasn't a slouch either - Prince Charles been called the 'Al Gore of England' with his environmental works. The wedding today was a very green wedding using locally grown flowers & food, recycled materials for the programs - even the trees you saw in Westminster Abbey will be replanted after the wedding (plus there will be carbon offsets too).

It was a fun day and a beautiful wedding.

23. William seems to be a thoroughly decent sort of duck.
He strikes me as very much his mother's son and as normal as anyone could be raised in the environment in which he grew up. Far more normal than the spoiled brat kids of America's plutocrats.

all have had well-meaning philanthropies and endeavors.

The point is they are descendants of a familial line that brutally took to the throne and held a brutal reign over the country. The people on the throne today and even for the last couple of centuries have never had to work for anything. The money they have has been plundered over the millenniums from the people of Great Britain and across the world.

BTW, my wife was up at 4:00am this morning to watch it. I didn't watch it. She also DVR'ed it.

20. I keep hoping Kate & Will only have girls
It seems a girl can only inherit the throne if no boys are born. At least Sweden changed it to the oldest child and they have the only Heir Apparrent who is female - everyone else have males next in line to the throne.

But they seem like such a modern couple. If a girl is first I could see them making changes to modernize things. I was watching BBC and a comment was made that some of the best times in English Royality it was a Queen running the ship - Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and now Queen Elizabeth II.
