2. I would have added an "Other" option...
...as you left some off.

Frankly my current favorite is As Time Goes By, but I also like the later Last of the Summer Wine. And I enjoyed Coupling, mostly because of the cast and the Jeff-splanations.

But of your list, I picked Black Adder, simply as a body of work.

Black Adder! Blacker Adder!
He rides a coal-black steed!
Black Adder! Black Adder!
He's very bad indeed!

18. Oh yeah. How many times have I wanted to go off like Basil did!
"Thank you, God! Thank you so bloody much!"

No one played the overbearing, sarcastic bully and ofttimes embarrassed, obsequious toady better.

Every time he got up on his high horse you knew he was going to hit the ground that much harder with his tail between the legs.

10. Here's one of my fave sketches by them.

This whole show is brilliant.

Every one knows Hugh Laurie now because of House, but no one seems to know that Stephen Fry is just as cool. They both write great books as well. :)

13. Hugh Laurie said doing an American accent was hard to do each week for House.
Great pick, btw! :)

14. I've always thought Dominic West's Jimmy McNulty in The Wire
nailed it, right down to the body language. I was amazed to find out he's a Yorkshireman.

Thanks. It rings true. Ever noncom since the Roman legions, "Your soul belongs to God, your heart to mother, but your ass is mine."

9. Still The Young Ones.
12 episodes of pure perfection.

Blackadder or A Bit of Fry and Laurie would be my next picks, followed closely by Red Dwarf and Alexei Sayle's Stuff. There's been a ton a great ones. French and Saunders, Fawlty Towers, Bottom ("Cripes...it's the gasman!"), etc. British comedy has always hit me just right. :)

19. You left out 'Waiting For God.' What a spirited lot of old folks. I really identified with Diana.
But your list is still good.

I preferred the original version of 'Red Dwarf.' It seemed as if they went back over it and made it more PC when I saw it later. Or maybe I was reading something differently when I first saw it.

That show made me scream with laughter. British comedies appeal to my kind of humor.

:hi:

21. This poll is a total fail without Fawlty Towers
Best currently airing Britcom is Peep Show by a WIDE margin.
