It is all screwed up with some kind of quirk since I downloaded a program and I've got hundreds of settings that took me forever to get.

I Googled but still can't figure it out.

2. Here's a link for the bookmarks, but I think you're out of luck on the settings
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000524.htm

Firefox is probably a more likely candidate to allow you to do that via it's "prefs" file, but Microsoft hasn;t stolen that functionality yet (at least in I.E. 8...I'm one of the XP users shut out of versions 9 and 10).

Good luck.

3. Looking around,
I found this:

http://www.backsettings.com/internet-explorer-backup.html

I also found feedback from people who liked the utility; but I can't vouch for it.

In the past for various programs (including IE), I found that I could copy certain files (directories) and then put them back in the right places after restore -- and that this would work to restore some stuff (details are hazy; I haven't used IE in years). At the very least I would make a copy of all the IE files (cookies, temp files, program files used to be in different places; plus, some customization could be elsewhere (other than the registry)) in another location; then comparing the copy and the restored version might help to restore some missing stuff.

Hope this helps some.

4. System Restore is the quickest fix I know of.
You can back up to the last known date where things worked right, especially in XP.

6. The best way to use IE is to never open it.

7. I know you can copy your bookmarks
and restore them. When my company (when I had a job) bought new computers, I was able to do that. As far as all the settings, I have no idea. The IT guy did that for us.
