15. Steve Miller is the Pauly Shore of "classic rock."
The first three albums...Children of the Future (April 1968), Sailor (October 1968), Brave New World (June 1969)...are what I'd call "classic rock."

But starting with "The Joker" (1973) and bullshit tracks like "Shu Ba Da Du Ma Ma Ma Ma," Miller revealed his true self...an ingrown hair on the taint of "serious" rock musicians everywhere.

I primarily dismiss this guy for ripping off Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way" in his sound-alike album track "The Stake."

She closed her eyes and started swaying
But it's so hard to dance that way
When it's cold and there's no music

My mind always adds "Playin" after music.
Listen and see if your mind does the same thing.

7. Rhyming "Jesus" with "diseases"
In the Christian hymn "There's Not a Friend Like the Lowly Jesus"

There's not a Friend like the lowly Jesus:
No, not one! no, not one!
None else could heal all our souls' diseases:
No, not one! no, not one!

I always thought that was in very questionable taste, yet it continues to be sung in church.

P. S. The page has a lovely ad with Obama on the right, instead of those hateful rightwing versions that have been there forever.

10. Ah, "The Lamb". I wore out three vinyl copies. I know it pretty much word-for-word.
I also had the pleasure of seeing The Musical Box recreate the entire production - with all 1200 or so slides for the 3-screen show behind the band and full costumes including the Slipperman.

Damn was that an experience.

11. Loretta Lynn rhymed "hard" and "tired"...the accent is what made it work
Edited on Thu May-05-11 02:19 PM by Tuesday Afternoon
Yeah, I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter,
I remember well the well where I drew water,
The work we done was hard, at night we'd sleep 'cause we were tired,
I never thought of ever leavin' Butcher Holler.

12. One of my favorite hard rock bands back in the day had some interesting rhymes
The band, who hardly anyone knew, was called Cats in Boots.

THe first one in this song is a straight rhyme that I find amusing, and the second is a weird one, also amusing:

In the Cats in Boots song, "Evil Angel," the rhyme goes:

Saint Jude,
Hey dude

Then after another line, an odder rhyme:

Saint Peter...
You gotta meet her

And from another Cats in Boots song, "Judas Kiss":

I'll wait a long time for your letter
On my lips, your Judas Kiss
You left your lipstick on my leather
Left me alone with your Judas Kiss

From "Long, Long Way from Home":

A Hong Kong looker
A potential hooker
