I lost a dear family member today.

My heart is breaking. Today we had to say good-bye to our sweet dog, Einstein. He has been a member of our family for almost 15 years. I named him Einstein because as a Sherpei/Lab mix he had a furrowed brow even as a puppy and always looked like he was thinking very hard. Maybe that name was a mistake because as a puppy he did like to devour books. He has been in failing health for the last couple of years, losing his eyesight and hearing. He has had a few small strokes and problems walking. He was a very loving, protective dog and we will miss him so much.

I knew DUers would understand. They give such unconditional love. It did not matter how bad a day I had, how grumpy or bitchy I was he always met me with love. Our other two dogs are very sad and confused.

10. He was a character.

Funny looking, funny acting and so sweet and loving.
We could not kennel him like other dogs we have had. He was an escape artist. He could unlock locks. To stop he from eating books we let the vet talk us into trying a muzzle. When we came home, he had eaten the muzzle and chewed on another book. Luckily he stopped the book eating after he was about 18 months old.
