55. Thank You...she is a sweetie, for sure...
That is the blanket she first jumped up on when we first brought her home.
It was the day Princess Diana passed away...So Tikki Marie became Tikki Marie Diana.

She jumped up on that end of the sofa with the blanket...looked around the room at all four (then) of us, fell asleep..
woke up a little while after, jumped down..went to the door and scratched to go out to potty and came back in
headed to the kitchen...found her water bowl and food..ate...then came and sat on my lap and gave me a big ole kiss.

She seemed like she had lived here forever. When bed time came, Mr. Tikki and I didn't even debate. She was going
to crawl into bed with us...It was a given.

This is Grace about a year ago. She was my foster dog, and had been rescued off the levee three weeks earlier. She had had her right rear leg amputated, as it was just a bony stump when my friend caught her.:wow: And she was a little mangy. But she's a survivor! And cute! (I saw her at the park last night with her new doggy daddy and she is doing great!:) )

And my Catahoula Overlord, Cleopatra Marie. ;-)

27. Thanks for helping Grace- Good to hear she's doing well!
We had a Malamute-Australian Shepherd x/w Blue heeler puppy and when people see her photo they say she looks like a Catahoula dog. She was white and blue merle, with black splotches, and had a blue eye. During her first year her "light blue" areas became mostly what I called "navy blue"- black with a blue sheen.
Do Catahoulas start out lighter and get darker?

We had this discussion in Dec. 2009 :)... it seemed familiar so I did a search. The photo I posted then of Billie got moved, but here it is-

Cleo really got dark, but you can still see the darker spots. Billie started out with merle and quite a lot of white, then had a lot of black-on-dark on her back after she was mature.
I don't have a picture of her when she was older in good light.

30. The late. The Great. The only. Mr. BB.
"Secret Service Dog has his eyes on you"

"The Elegant Tourist"

"Suckin da Thumb"

"All dressed up and nowhere to go"

"Easter bonnet"

"There's a Squirrel in this damned tree, I just know it"

He's been gone 6 years now and I think of him every day. I miss him so much.

A couple of short anecdotes about him and I'll go to bed;

He used to yodel when he was happy to see you. When you or someone he liked was near or just walked in, he would often go get a ball or a toy (but not always) and come up to you, smiling, ears back and with the item in his mouth would ...well...yodel. WoooooOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH. WoooOOOO. Wooooooo.

He would do it as a call across the street to the neighbor kids to come over and play.

I taught him to be a dead dog by shooting him with my finger. "Bang, BB. Dead dog." and he would fall over on his side. I lived in Dearborn and my neighbor had grandkids that loved him (he loved EVERYONE) and knew about his tricks. One day I was inside and BB was in the back, fenced in yard. I hear the grandkids yelling "BANG"....a few seconds pass...."BANG"......a few more seconds...."BANG".

I look out the back window. They are on their side of the fence with old fashioned cork pop guns and BB is in his yard. No adults in sight. They shoot him and yell "BANG". My dog falls over for them, lays there for 3 or 4 seconds and gets up, wagging his tail. They shoot him again. Rinse repeat.

He was playing with the kids cause he loved it and them.

He traveled with me quite a bit. We would stop at a rest area and after he did his business it was time for a bit of fun. I would tell him "Go get a stick". He would trot off into the woods and drag a branch back, often 15 or more feet long. He would then proceed to strip the damned thing down to a more manageable size for a game of toss, stripping the small twigs off and breaking a long branch down to a 2 footer or so. He would then bring it and drop it at my feet as if to say "This'll do".

At his prime he was 30 pounds of solid muscle and fun. I often told people he did 3 things very well: Eat, Sleep and have a good time. He didn't have a mean bone in his body and he just simply loved everyone he ever met. He was the most gregarious dog I have ever known.

Bostons are so entertaining & love to be with their families. Those who don't allow dogs in the house should not get one, since their short snouts couldn't sustain extreme hot & cold temperatures.

Our Boston's name is Gizmo. He's going to be 11 yrs. old on August 3rd & he's brindle colored. He's brown, but in dim light his coat looks almost black. His tricks are playing the piano, speak, sit, gimme 5 & 10, catches a football with his front paws, gets his towel when his paws get wet.

(I'm having some difficulty with my photobucket account, so I edited out the link for Gizmo's picture, for privacy purposes. Dammit.)

60. Gizmo sounds cool! Love the hi 5 & 10 idea! And getting a towel to clean up is too cool...
They are a wonderful breed, aren't they? We've had them all my life and have bred many times.

The one I had before BB was Mr. Beau Tye. He was all business! He was about as perfectly marked as can be; perfect spats on his rear feet, perfect and even gloves on his front, nice, even collar all around and a perfect Haggerty thumb mark on his head. We started training him for the ring when he was about 6 months old and I finished him (finally) when he was about 4. Dog shows are SO political and he was often beaten by dogs half his quality, but they were owned by friends of the judges (or so I always suspected). Tye was also very smart and fun, but he just wasn't as outgoing, you know?

BB however......

BB was named in honor of Tye, BTW - Beau Tye - Beau Brummel.

Since I have traveled so much I have often kept my personal effects in storage lockers. One day I was at my storage with BB and another guy was in his about 4 doors down. He was a carpenter or a plumber or something as he had a bunch of tools out and was sitting at the back of his truck working on something. I noticed BB wasn't in my locker with me and started looking around for him. I look over at the guy and there he is, just sitting next to this total stranger leaning against his leg. I said "Hey man, I'm sorry...is he bothering you?"

"Not at all" says the guy..."he just wandered over and had a seat. No problem!"

BB just wanted to make a new friend.

He also simply LOVED to tear up cardboard boxes. Any kind. Empty beer cartons, corrugated boxes. He just thought it was a blast to rip them to shreds. One gig I had was working for GMC Truck Motorsports on the NHRA circuit. Doing something like that, you park near the same displays every event and the "Manufacturers Midway" display folks tend to be a pretty tight knit group. They all loved BB. One Wednesday set-up day, when all the displays are moving in, cleaning up and setting up, I was doing the same thing and across from me was a guy who ran a display for Quaker State Oil. Every race this guy would get about 25 cases of oil in quarts from the local distributor to use to build a display in front of his trailer.

So I'm cleaning the inside of my trailer and I notice BB is gone. No biggie...he just went on walkabout I'm sure. So I look outside for him and there is the Quaker State guy, standing in the door way of his trailer, laughing his ass off. Totally. Tears running down his cheeks. I shout over "Have you seen BB?" He doesn't stop laughing but nods and points inside his trailer.

I walk over and look into the rear of his rig. He had tossed all the the empty oil cases into the back and there was BB, in the middle of a huge pile of empty cardboard boxes RIPPING THEM ALL TO SHREDS! I mean it was total fucking carnage! He had taken a chunk out of each one and had completely shredded about 10 of them. It was a big pile of small, Boston Terrier mouth sized bits of cardboard confetti COVERING the floor of this poor guys trailer! When I looked in he was going to town on one. He would hold it down with his front paws and take a bite, rip it out, shake his head and let the bit fly. Over and over until there wasn't enough left to be any fun, then he would grab another box and continue.

The guy is still laughing his ass off so I asked him "did you call him over to do this?" (cause he knew BB liked to tear up cardboard) He said "No, he just walked over, wagged his tail at me, noticed the big pile of boxes and just went to town!"I called him: "BB!". The dog looks up from his industrious project of destruction, did the doggy, Boston grin they do, wagged his tail (and by that I mean his entire rear end, as you well know) and went right back to it! When he looked at me it was if he was saying "Look! I found a big huge pile of fun!

Like all dog owners, I have hundreds of these kind of stories. He was always cracking me up or doing something unbelievably subtle and sweet.

I have got to get another one.

Soon.

I'm only hoping the universe will bless my next puppy by giving me his spirit back.

61. BB had a lot of personality -- I enjoyed your post so much!
I could picture him having fun with all the cardboard!

I'm glad you brought him with you -- they do love being with their humans.  I get the impression Bostons like being around men in particular.  Gizmo loves his mama, but he loves to be around the men.  So I know BB especially liked being at the raceway & tearing up the cardboard was probably an outlet for his excitement.

Bostons are comedians -- they love to make their humans laugh!  I hope you can get another one to fill the emptiness from having lost BB.  I dread the day we lose Gizmo; he's like my little toddler.  :)

I did a search to see if you had posted Rosie's photo in the past after I read your post about her demise. She looks like a dear girl.

Sometimes old dogs know it's time and wander off. If that was the case, I'm glad you didn't have to look for her.

When the only dog I've raised from puppyhood died in old age I wrote a page of memories of her- funny little idiosyncrasies, our silly nicknames for her, etc.. It helped a little bit.

Here are both of our current dogs in one picture together. That was a rare and difficult accomplishment.

The tan dog is Ms Molly Wigglebottom: The friendliest dog you'll ever meet.

The black dog is Coco: The Mighty 7 Pounds herself! My own personal canine defense system and the dog that owns me. Or, as her many fans and servitors know her, "VoldiMutt." ("The dark lord lives, and we live only to serve!")

52. you have to upload to someplace like..
photobucket (it's free) then copy and past the address...the picture will show up..

on photobucket it's under "share this photo" img code..

hope this helps.
