My old boss (a very good guy) retired and this fucking twit who replaced is a micro-managing asshole. My old boss would never make us do something he wouldn't do himself.
One of the things we do is fisheries surveys at boats ramps. These are all day long, weekdays, weekends and holidays (not all of them but typically every other weekend with only having six people in my office). It is Texas, so it is really not in summer, too hot for me in reality. My old boss would almost never leave early if it was slow; he usually let someone else go home early. My new boss often arrives late to these surveys and is the one who gets to leave, plus she very critical when we miss interviews because it is busy and, honestly, too hot outside for humans (I am not killing myself for this stupid job). Quite frankly she sucks as a person and a boss, micromanaging every single thing within an inch of its life. My old boss would let us do our jobs. He trusted us to get it done. It's only been a couple of months with this new person and I want to leave. I am even trying to figure out how long my savings will last if I up and quit. My job is pure drudgery most of the time so I have been looking for a long time but right now there aren't many jobs out there.
I don't know how much more of this I can take.

I loved my old boss, who was sent to the hinterlands when the "efficiency expert" regional VP appointed a sporty buddy to run our area.
HALF of the sales force has been fired in a little over two years. The local manager in charge was a twit who stabbed my old boss in the back and got his old responsibilities.
It was CLEAR what was happening when the old boss was sent to the countryside...I told him after the meeting, "Silverback, this would NEVER happen in the wild!"
Well, two years later...OLD BOSS is back in the saddle, twit is sent to the minors, and OLD BOSS remembers who had his BACK. He had a meeting with us workhorses and told us, no more write-ups, no more threats, no more unquestioned enforcement of bullshit schemes from the "efficiency expert" VP...This all comes a little late for the tens of good reps that have been let go during these TERRIBLE economic times (sometimes out of PURE SPITE on the part of management) BUT....better late than never.
So...keep your head down (no "tall poppy" moments!) do what you CAN, not particularly what they ask and know that things change.

3. Two things that help me when dealing with annoying work issues beyond my control: |
|
(1) Remember to take it one day at a time.
(2) Detachment--detach from work problems as much as you can. I realize that in the case of micromanagment, this is well-night impossible. I can't stand to work for a micromanager either.
Best of luck to you!

She isn't all bad so I hoping that this is just the result of inexperience and bad happens learned from HER old boss, who is notorious for this sort of thing.
