Photo: Adopted dog...
This is Vegas, my daughter adopted him today from the SPCA. He's been there since fall 2010, the named him Matthew, she changed it to Vegas. I was with her when HE picked her. I swear it was like a movie, she went there after having looked at their website with 3 females in mind 2 were pits one wasn't. He was in the back row and the last dog she looked at. The way he looked at her, and leaned against the fence as if trying to get every part of him on her was so sweet. She didn't want a male a dog. She went back and looked at all of them again, and ended up in front of his cage. She said he belonged with her and that was that. He's so sweet and docile. He's briefly met my 2 girls..cuz she'll be bringing him over with her so we need them to be friends. He was tested and is fine around other dogs. Cats..not so much, so when he's here I'll need to put kitty up so he's safe.

Just wanted to share the story with all of you

1. That is so cool!!
Welcome to Vegas! He looks like a honey-pie, I am so glad to see people adopt pitties, cause a lot of folks won't even consider them, even if they've been temperament tested and all.

Glad that he's good with your girls, cause they look like sweeties too.

9. If I could have I would have brought her..
home with me. But she doesn't do well with other dogs, and I have two. She's been there for far too long. It broke my heart having to leave her there...she's been there off and on..more on for two years..

Dutchess was an adopt return because her owner was moving and could not take her with them. She is a very big girl with a very big heart. She does not care for other dogs and we are unsure how she is with cats. She did get along with the children she lived with who were under 15yrs of age. She does need a home were it is mostly quiet. She's five.

18. One of the sweetest, most gentle and loving dogs I've ever met
was a pure-bred pit bull. The toddler in the house would lie down literally on top of this dog and fall asleep, and the dog would just hang out like that, all happy as can be about being with his boy. Perhaps you have some personal reason for hating pit bulls, but it's a damn shame that you could be missing out on a wonderful friendship.

31. You aren't getting the real story.
Edited on Wed May-25-11 05:41 AM by noamnety
1. The dog was attacking his own dog, so I'd assume he is a dog lover, not someone who randomly shoots dogs for fun.
2. When he tried to save his dog the other one attacked him in his face, he had to go to ER and get stitches.
3. The photos he offered up were of his injuries. (Reading this thread, you'd think he was offering trophy photos of the dead dog.)

You can agree with his actions or condemn them (or be indifferent), but it's not right for others here to deliberately make up a bunch of lies and present them as truth. I don't understand their motivation for that.

36. This is a direct quote:
"back from er

6 stitches and lots of family drama..was surreal

My wifes nephews shepperd came up here and attacked my terrier...I tried to pull them apart and his dog bit me in the arm...then jumped back on my terrier...I kicked it trying to get it off my terrier and it turned on me and bit the fuck out of my face.

6 stitches and a buttload of pain."
---------------------------------------------
I'm having a hard time believing he then pm'd people (in seriousness) to say he was lying, he just needed a bandaid.

37. Hard time aside.
Pics of the dead dog were offered up.

And 6 stitches? Bit on the arm and then "bit the fuck out of my face" resulting in 6, count them 6 stitches. 6 stitches that in all my experience, one would have to be one wailing, pathetic idiot to demand 6 stitches. Many REAL docs treat dog bites, but leave them "open" so to speak. They get wrapped.

Yeah, shoot that dog. So bouncy, I can't even begin to contain the Superball-ness of this. No shock, considering.

Not that I'll ever let him forget it.

BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY!! Considering one can't spell "shepherd" no shock they can't tell a true story or at least be part of an actual happening. Noting the absence once AGAIN of the OP when called on the bounciness of this.

39. I don't understand why you would say that.
"one would have to be one wailing, pathetic idiot to demand 6 stitches." I assume the doctor said "You need 6 stitches" and he said okay. Why would you imply he was demanding the stitches or that the ER doctor wasn't a real doctor? That's a bizarre accusation.

I went back and read the thread and photos of the dog were NOT offered up there. The reality - he offered up photos, someone incorrectly presumed he meant of the dog, he reacted with outrage that it was interpreted that way.

Here's the exact exchange:

---------------
if anyone wants to pm cell number I'll send some pics. Don't EVER trust a dog that isnt yours
---------------
you shot it, then took photos before you went to the ER? Are you shitting me?
---------------
NO idiot. I said I'd send pics of what the dog did to me if anyone wants...idiot

----------------------------------
I'm sorry to be dwelling on this but I find it annoying and offensive when people misrepresent conversations to that degree, and this one was so easy to fact check because it's still available on DU. I believe you misunderstood and honestly believed he was offering up photos of the dog, and maybe you invented your own degree of how serious the injuries were for some reason and now you truly believe what you imagined is fact.

All the same, what you wrote here is not an accurate representation of what he said, and your version was outrageous enough that I didn't believe your version. So I googled it and sure enough, your memory as a witness to that conversation seems very flawed.

On a side note, I also object to people getting bent out of shape when someone doesn't respond to a thread they posted in. I've been offline for a few days and found people dancing around in a frenzy because I had the nerve to have a life outside of DU or some other forum and didn't properly prioritize responding to their post. Every once in a while I'll be offline even just for an hour because I have to make dinner, and I come back to find people are shrieking that I abandoned a thread. Sometimes I just don't respond because the person who is conversing with me just isn't worth my time. If you were grossly misrepresenting what I'd written, I'd likely put you in that category, life's too short sometimes and just because someone demands a response from me doesn't mean I'm obligated to bother writing one.

But then, you Googled. All the facts are right there because of the Google-fu you harness. Really? Is that how you live?

34. I had 2 pits, one passed away, he other is still with us...
like any breed, a dog will act out as they are treated. If you treat a dog with love and caring, they will be loving and caring. If you beat the dog, they will get mean. It's not the dog, it's the owners. A bad owner can make a Beagle into a monster.

Some people should not have pets, period; in fact, I can think of a few owners that should be kept in cages, beaten and starved.

A dog is one of the most loving creatures we have, they don't care if you had a bad day at work, they don't care if your life just crashed, they care that they wee you, regardless of how the day has gone, the dog is just happy you are there...they will protect you, and I know of several cases where pits and other breeds, have satayed with and often pulled children out of burning houses, at great risk and often being burned themselves.

I've seen my dogs cuddle up to infants in the house, because they were crying, they knew something was wrong, and added a level a of compassion to alleviate the dismay of the child....which is more than many humans do.

30. I am so glad you adopted. Looks like a pitty.
I admit I read cragislist's Pet Section often and it is appalling how many dogs (and cats) find themselves turned over to shelters. Rescues try to spring the ones in the high kill shelters but there are so many. In their eyes you can see fear and, worse, hopelessness. I have the maximum critters possible for my square footage, but at least once a day wonder if I can't squeeze just one more in. Tell your daughter thanks for being open to allowing this dog to choose her. Your story made my day.

38. oooh how sweet - the same thing happened with our Jasmine
We went in to buy dogfood 10yrs ago and it was pet adoption day. We already had 2 dogs and a cat, but just wanted to see if there were any black lab female puppies.

We saw puppies, male lab puppies, but no female. We breathed a sigh of relief - my husband had just lost his job and we really couldn't afford another. Then the adoption person overheard us and said there was in fact a female back lab puppy off to the side (away from all the other potential adoptees). Well she really wasn't puppy-puppy, she was 6 months old and pretty big, and was a Chesapeake Bay/Lab mix (which we found out later have a very different personality than Labs).

None of that mattered - she saw me, cocked her head and apparently I did the same and it was love at first sight, because my husband didn't even see her - just saw my face and went to get the checkbook.

She still gives me that look and it still melts my heart... rescues are the best
