Hadn't thought about those guys in a while. Great sound, excellent composing. Truly an underrated band.

4. But I have!
Absolutely LOVED the Daevid Allen/Steve Hillage Gong and still do. Didn't have much time for Pierre Moerlen's bland jazz/fusion version after all the hippie stoners left.

Great band. They invented space fusion, inspired Ozric Tentacles, and were generally one of the coolest bands of the era. Various incarnations of Gong still appear from time to time. Check out the history at the Gibraltar Encyclopedia of Progressive Rock site: www.gepr.net.

After seeing your Gong, I will up you Magma. :)

And Be-Bop Deluxe were very cool, too. Saw them tear it up - especially Bill Nelson - in a theatre here in Minny back in '78 or so.

5. Actually heard Gong live in 1975
In London. Great show.
I have heard of Magma. Not that familiar with them though. I was very into space/rock/jazz fusion in the 1970. Bands like PFM, Hawkwind and Perugia. But I don't listen to much so called prog-rock these day. Although I do like Porcupine Tree.

If you haven't checked out my music blog, you might enjoy some of the stuff I post there: http://marksmusicmemo.blogspot.com

10. They'd never be signed to a deal these days.
Too much harmonic interest, the melodies are relatively too complicated to make it now...they're just too good...

11. Slade, in the US.
These guys where fantastic and very popular around the world but didn't make it in the states. I was only a kid then so I don't know the answer.

13. Oh hell yes.
Even more underrated is Bill Nelson's impressive post-Be Bop solo catalog...he's become the king of "experimental" rock and instrumental music.
