Need "get out of my daughter's belly" vibes
She is 5 days past "due" date and there is talk of inducing. She is getting miserable too because daughter wants all natural.

I think Kiley, my next grandkid, just likes it in there.. a heated pool.. no diaper changes.. steady flow of nourishment, but my daughter is past ready to welcome her to the world. :)

:hi:

1. Well, with our eldest, I took my wife out for a ride down Purgatory Rd.
I'm not kidding - that was the name of it. It was the most pothole filled road I knew of and I had an '80 Aspen with both vinyl seats and leaf springs. Good combination. Our midwife suggested it and when we got back she was in full labor. We had all three daughters at home. The first was the longest "full" labor - over 9 hours after 3 days of false labor. The second was more like a five hour ordeal. By the third, she didn't even wake me up until an hour after her water broke and the baby was SERIOUSLY crowning by the time the midwife got to the house. She only lived a mile down the road.

The little drive is an old trick - horse-drawn buggies on dirt roads used to be the ticket. If you don't have vinyl seats, be sure to take some of those blue hospital "piddle pad" things.

3. She has been up and at it for days trying to get it going
Her husband has been getting in the hay for as long. I told daughter she should go ride on the back of the tractor. We'll see.

Thanks :)

2. My dear Inchworm!
Hey, my first was TWO WEEKS past her due date!

I tried mowing the grass, to my neighbor's horror...but it didn't help.

I was positive she would never get born, and I'd be an entry in the Guinness World Book of Records.

They come when they're good and ready (normally).

Good vibes to your daughter!

4. It seems different now
Different than even when my daughter was born. They suggested a C-section on her due date. Docs (the only 2 that serve the county she lives in) keep trying to get her to induce to avoid c-section. Daughter has a doula that is talking her through the pressure.

It just seems easy for docs to scare her into believing Kiley is going to be the biggest baby on the planet and intervention is needed.

My daughter is a trooper though, Thanks :)

5. Those damn doctors need their heads examined!
It truly sounds like they want the baby born at their convenience, and that is BAD medicine.

Tell her to hang in there, and stay with the doula.

Jeez.

22. My first was THREE weeks "late."
All was well, he was fine.
My second was taking her own sweet time, also "late" when I slipped on the steps and sat down HARD.
Waters broke and off we went to the hospital. Induced after sleeping overnight in the hospital, and all was well, too.
I only put "late" in quotes because I'm not sure how accurately we or the doctors timed either of these conceptions.

6. Sending energy to your daughter
Lounge vibes work - they helped my stepdaughter with her difficult pregnancy. The doula is a great idea. I hope you hold Kiley in your arms soon.

I have seen the Lounge Vibes do good too. I thought I'd give it a try.

LoL, although I can't wait to hold her, I bet daughter can't wait more :P

11. LoL
Yup, that's my daughter. She has a doc's appt today. I told her to ride a horse to the appointment and see if that helps. Daughter is a La Leche leader and really doesn't want hormone shots, but the misery factor plus docs persistence is compelling her to change her stance. We'll see.

:D

16. I know how she feels
Edited on Tue May-31-11 01:35 PM by Marrah_G
My son was 3 weeks late! But he is brilliant and talented and at 18 is in college (even in the summer), in the AF Guard as sort of a "geek squad for the MIB", and plans to design the first warp drives in space :)

I always says it was the extra 3 weeks cooking that set him apart. My other two "on times" are responsible for all my hidden grays :)

18. Here you go~~~vibes~~~~
The most recent grandchild borne, that daughter wanted 'natural' they talked about inducing, but didn't. She did end up with an epidural, but had it turned down when the baby was crowning so she could feel enough to experience the birth in the fullest way possible.

My oldest daughter, with the help of a midwife had borne a 10.5 pound monster -all natural- the year before. She still brags about it. To be fair, this was her second child so she knew what to expect.

It all depends, and thank goodness there are options and decisions and the best outcome is a healthy birth for mother and infant.

What surprises me, according to my daughters is how much negativity they had gotten from people when they stated their intention to have 'natural' childbirth ("That's what drugs are for" says one women)

Weird.

19. Thanks :)
This is daughter's 2nd. She is aware. The negativity you mentioned is daughter's biggest obstacle. From the docs all the way down, very few are supportive of the whole idea. Which is indeed weird.

Soon.

24. Send her to our house for spaghetti & meatballs
my one girlfriend went over her due date twice, and both time came over to our house for sympathy, and both times delivered the next day. you might say "well, if she was overdue, the statistics are in favor of her giving birth the next day no matter what" but I say it's magic spaghetti.

Send her over, and congrats!

Come on out, Kiley. The world is a REALLY COOL place. Sure, there's bad stuff, but it's so much more entertaining than where you are now! There's weather! Animals! Music! Milk! Stuff to break when you get just a little bit older!

Read her some Kerouac to encourage a sense of wanderlust. :hi:

28. **** UPDATE: No pics yet- just got home last night- Kiley Nichole was born Thursday 6-2-11***
7 pounds 14 ounces, 20 Inches tall. No pics yet... but soon :)

My daughter was a trooper. She was induced with pitocin on Wednesday at around 9am because the docs were convinced Kiley was 8+ pounds and huge. The doc wanted to break her water but daughter wouldn't let him. The doc (evidently) wanted to go home at 5pm so the pitocin was stopped at 4:30pm.

Daughter and hubby stayed in the hospital that night doing some sorta natural positioning stuff that involved some exercise ball. Her contractions picked up naturally after the pitocin wore off.

When the doc returned in the morning he reengaged with the pitocin. Daughter refused all pain meds... even though she came close toward the end. She cussed the doc and tried to kick his head when he felt the need to do that episiotomy cut. He felt it was necessary even though it was not wanted by daughter. All good though, evidently it was a "level 1" whatever that means.

I had the best time keeping up with my 2 year old grandson the last couple days. He is so caring, smart, and aware :)
