I sawed a fox.
Edited on Tue Jun-14-11 12:00 AM by originalpckelly
I was walking my dog and we saw a fox. It ran in front of us going down a street about a half a block away.

I saw a fox running in the moonlight. Wish I could have taken a picture, but I was kind of worried about my puppy and I. I think they're fairly skittish, I've seen one twice before and both times it seemed totally disinterested in me, and one time one of them was outside the door to my apartment building, and it ran away when my friend and I got close to the doors.

1. I saw one about 2 or 3 in the morning.
Heard an odd noise outside, looked in my backyard, saw two glowing eyes and the damn thing did that bark-scream.

I nearly did a dump in my pants :-)

3. Having lived near the country for a long time, we see nearly all
types of critters except foxes. We saw a family once about 5 years ago. That was our only sighting.
Man oh man, those are beautiful critters.
Never realized they were so secretive.

4. My SO saw one walking down the sidewalk one night last week
He said it was really funny, because the little guy stayed on the pavement, and then crossed at the corner. Our little suburb is very quiet at night, so he and the fox were the only ones up and about. We've seen what we can only presume is the wife out back - we came in the driveway one night, and she was in the back yard, lit up by the spotlight. (There seems to be quite a size difference between the sexes)

My dad saw a fox one day (back in the 40s), and it started following him to the house were he was delivering something. He was terrified, because Fox + Day + Following Humans = Rabid. Fortunately, the farm owner was home, and able to let my dad in the house.

5. :want:
We live in a busy city but we did see a fox, just once, years ago now I think. There's a stream though our neighborhood, so critters too.

Then last year I thought I saw one in the back yard! That was a coyote though :o

7. The coyotes here in Upstate New York are developing into a
fairly large animal. I think they're slipping into the niche formerly taken by wolves. Given all the protein on the hoof, I expect that we'll see an equilibrium of deer & coyote settling into our suburbs.

6. Saw a fox by streetlamp this spring, late at night.
Standing in the middle of our street. We're in the city, but we've got a lot of park and woodland around here, and the commuter train tracks are just at the end of our block. (The train right-of way actually provides a lot of wild shelter for critters like foxes).
I was walking our two Great Pyrenees. The fox just stood there, almost like he was playing chicken, he stood stock still staring at us as we got closer and closer. Finally one of my dogs woofed, and he left. Gorgeous gorgeous animal. Haven't seen him lately, though.

8. We have lots of them around here.
They scream at night, and it sounds like something out of a horror movie: People are always amazed and say they have never heard fox screams before:

They are gorgeous animals. The babies are curious and will actually try to follow you. It is very tempting to feed them, but for their own safety they have to learn to be afraid of people.
