17. None Better. None Better
I have been watching uncut reruns of The Andy Griffith show on Netflix. Amazing how much of the little bits between Andy and Barney were cut for syndication to make room for more commercials.

Don Knotts creation of Barney Fife is truly as good as it gets.

18. The show really faltered after he left
It was amazing how Don Knotts could make you laugh at Barney's pomposity one second and tear up over his pathos the next. He was a clown with a deep soul. One of the truly great TV characters.

That guy who replaced him was just plain annoying (the straight-laced deputy who would do that "huh?" "yeah" "huh?" "yeah" bit).

20. The amazing thing about that town
was how white it was! Do you think they had a sign at the city limits saying "No Coloreds Allowed"?

22. LOL. Actually, there were black folks in the background sometimes
Reflecting and reinforcing, I guess, the pre-dominent worldview of most whites at time.

I remember reading once that shows like Andy Griffith and Gomer Pyle, USMC were ways to whitewash the ugly realities of racist cops in the South and what was happening in Vietnam. Might be grasping a bit there, but who knows?

One of the best bits I ever saw from Laverne & Shirley was all the clips of the lines immediately preceding their entrances followed by them entering. It was hysterical.
