I think DIE HARD would have been better with less humor |
|
This might sound really strange, but the only thing that keeps me from fully embracing this well-crafted actioner is the smart-ass nature of Bruce Willis's character. He's always cracking wise, when he should be utterly friggin' terrified. Quips like “Happy trails, Hans!” pulls me out of the movie.

4. The reason for Die Hard's success was humor |
|
I never watch action movies. Or almost never. Any of the shoot 'em up movie genres are not something I would watch of my own volition. I'm outside the target demographic. The thing is, the reason Die Hard is remembered so fondly by such a large segment of the population is because of the humor. It transcended genre, it brought in people who would rather go to a romantic comedy. It was so well done - the intrigue of corporate espionage, for example. The european hit squad, etc etc. Evil mastermind out of James Bond. It's epic.
Without those laughs, I couldn't tolerate it.
