1. I vaguely remember the bars down there and they do frown on passing out on the street |

2. I did, but I stayed at a campground... |

and definitely not in August!
I think there is a DUer that lives there, but I can't remember her/his name.

6. Are the dates firm? My partner and I went for our anniversary in August a few |
|
years ago. It was nice, but it was also quite hot and humid. Ocean breezes only go so far in this South Florida climate. Avoid the mangrove smell when at all possible. Reason I asked about the date is that it is Hurricane season down here right now. August is when things begin to heat up figuratively and literally. (in 94, "A"ndrew struck around then...first of the season..)
Not to be a negative dude, but August is always time to avoid South Florida...except if you're an Englishman or a mad dog...or someone who lives here 24/7... :)

7. It's been years since I have been in Key West. |
|
When I lived in Miami, I would go down there at least once a year. I would suggest finding a place close to Duvall Street, as that is the most interesting area on the whole island.

My Blue Heaven is the best place for breakfast.... especially if you like bloody mary's (I don't) but the food and selection are amazing.... oh and the roosters and chickens roaming around are great. The butterfly museum is worth going to ..... the butterfly room is great... a trip to the Dry Tortugas is worth every penny especially if you like to snorkel or like history and all the museums and house tours are great... the ghost tour is kind of fun also. You will have no problem finding great food and drinks down there, there is a Cuban restaurant we go to just to get the fried plaintains... got to get the name though... one place you have to stop and have a beer is The Smallest Bar on Duvall street.... so much fun. I stayed at the Hyatt on Front street, don't know how fancy you want to go but this is within walking distance of almost everything. If you like to fish we chartered the Outer Limits and went "blue water " fishing. there are 2 restaurants on the pier that will cook your catch to your liking and the first mate cleans the fish for you...
I love Key West.... if you have any questions let me know and I will try to answer them

10. Yes, about 15 years ago, We stayed at a motel, but don't recall its name. |
|
We had a lot of fun there even with the kids along. We hit all the tourist spots and loved the sunsets. I would love to go back, this time without the kids! }(
