Why on earth would you name your child after a number?

3. Good catch!
Looking it up, 7 was Beckham's shirt number at Man Utd for most of his time there, and he had it at least some of the time playing for England and the episode of Seinfeld was about Mickey Mantle's jersey number (according to Wikipedia, again).

Bit nerdy and pretentious to lumber your daughter with your own shirt number, though.

5. My second cousin is named Mattingly.
It's rather awkward for him as Don Mattingly retired like 15 years ago and nobody except hardcore baseball fans remembers him; it's not like he was Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle. So now Mattingly ends up having to explain his name constantly...he goes by Matt and can't wait to turn 18 so Mattingly can become Matthew.

10. I'm aware of that.
It doesn't do anything to make it a less dumb name and again unless one is a baseball fan one isn't going to know or care.

IF you're going to name your kid like that...choose a sports star whose fame exceeds their sport into the universal mainstream.

7. Could have named her Harper Sevenofnine.
Of course, the fact that she's only Number Four might make that awkward.
