So this jerk dinged my car today
I had just pulled into a parking spot and a car backed in right next to me, so the drivers side of his car was on the same side as the drivers side on my car. He had pulled in pretty fast, seemed to be in a hurry, I was still waiting for a friend and in no hurry, so I decided to stay in my car until he got out of his.

Guy opens his door and BANG hits my car door. Then the back door of his car opens slowly, a woman gets out and walks to the front of the car, towards the restaurant where we were parked. I wait till she's out of the car and I open my door and ask the man "Did you just hit my car?"

And he yells "BULLSHIT! I DID NOT!" And I said "I know I felt a bump. I think you opened your door into the side of my car." He again yells "BULLSHIT!"

So I get out of my car and look at the door to see if he left a mark and the woman comes over and says "Oh, I'm sorry, it was me. I accidentally hit your rear view mirror with the door when I got out"

Well I knew that was a lie because I had watched her get out, waiting till she was out of the way till I opened my door - cause I had felt the bump BEFORE she had even opened her door. (And I'm trying to figure out why in the world she would lie for this asshole with obvious anger issues.)

So I said "No, it wasn't you. I was waiting for you to get out before I opened my door. It was him who hit my car"

Guy comes over, gets about 6 inches from my face and once again yells "BULLSHIT!"

I said as calmly as I could "You know, this is not going to be a problem if my car is damaged and you have insurance. Let me look at the door" and I lean over and start looking at my car door and see there is no ding. Well before I can even say a word, the guy starts screaming at me "BULLSHIT!" about 6 times and calls me a lying bitch. The lady is standing in front of him, between him and me so he can't come get in my face again.

So I get my cell phone out of my pocket and decide to call my friend who I think by now is probably in the restaurant waiting for me. The lady says "Oh great, you stupid ass, now she's calling the police!"

Guy yells "FUCK!" and walks into the restaurant. My friend answers the phone, comes outside but the guy is now inside.

So we go in the restaurant, sit down and the guy stares at me the entire time he is there.

When he leaves, I watch him and sure enough, he goes right next to my car and stares at the door for a minute or so and then KICKS MY CAR DOOR.

So I make a note of his tag number and go outside. I've looked over and over but can't see any damage. Tough car, I guess. :)

That was technically assault, you should have called the police. :D

5. I know it is.
But the lady got in front of him right away, trying to calm him down. By that time I was feeling sorrier for HER than angry at him. I was wondering why she was riding in the back seat of the car, and like I said, why would she lie for him like that?

Some guys just can't admit a mistake. Had I been there, I probably would have warned the woman to flee from this guy, as it's only a matter of time before he's taking his rage out on her - presuming he hasn't already.

In my case, we pulled into a restaurant parking lot next to a car with the lights on. This was in the days before lights turned themselves off automatically, I hasten to add. We looked around the lot, but nobody seemed to belong to the car. Upon closer inspection my friend saw the car was unlocked, and opened the door and turned off the lights. No sooner had he closed the door again, when this nitwit comes storming out of the restaurant, hapless buddy in tow, screaming at my friend to stay the hell away from his car. We calmly turned to face the nitwit, and my friend explained that the lights had been left on, he was just turning them off. Nitwit, in full frothing rage mode, didn't hear a word and continued a profane tirade about how we were lucky his dog wasn't in the car, with a full description of the dismemberment we would have been subject to.

Finally, the hapless friend got it through to the guy that he had left his lights on, and we had just turned them off. Unable to apologize, he screamed that he had meant to leave them on, and so saying reached in and turned his headlights back on. Hapless friend sort of shrugged at us as they made their way back into the restaurant. After a brief conference, my friend and I decided we'd patronize some other establishment, one that didn't cater to such knuckleheads.

8. I always deliberately leave my headlights on. It helps me find my car in a crowded lot: mine
will be the one sitting there with a dead battery after everyone else has left

lady he was with. Not your fault - he was pissed off before he ever got to the restaurant. You were sideswiped by his anger at the world. Just be glad he saves his violence for people who can't/won't fight back.

9. Sounds to me like the woman he was with knew of his "issues".
The guy sounds like a major dick. I don't know if I would have been able to remain as calm as you were.
