3. I really like all three of those songs - even though I'm not
a country music fan. My ex-MIL used to have it on all the time back in the day, and I always looked forward to their songs. However...they have gotten SO WEIRD, especially Wynonna. I can't even bear to look at her anymore.

Loves me some Ashley Judd! :)

7. I like some of the old school duets...
George & Tammy, Johnny & June, etc. The songs felt real because they all had a level of drama in their personal lives that often overshadowed the requisite melodrama in the songs they performed.

Also, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris brought new life to the genre. "Grievous Angel" is one of the greatest "2nd Generation" Country albums, period.

In 2011, age and experience has resulted in a more world-weary tone to Emmylou's voice, and her choice of material (especially on her recent album "All That I Intended To Me") has bordered on the morose, but her first four albums (Pieces of the Sky, Elite Hotel, Luxury Liner and Quarter Moon In A Ten Cent Town) are still the stuff of legends...beautifully performed, strong material, just a joy.

:toast:

9. The Judd's are very good, and I'm no expert on country
but I was reading Skeeter Davis' bio and the first record she and Betty Jack Davis put out (way back in 1953) was "I Forgot More Than You'll Ever Know" so I pulled it up on Youtube and was blown away by their harmonies. It was so obvious where the Everly Brothers got their sound. The story of the Davis Siters has a tragic ending, of course, with the death of Betty Jack in a car wreck at age 21 just as they were climbing to the top.

11. Are you a Penick or a Roberts?
None of my business, of course. I sat down and read the book cover to cover last weekend (I had not read all of it before) and your aunt seemed so sweet and open-hearted. She obviously loved Betty Jack very much and their voices coming together was magic. Skeeter was an unappreciated talent in her own right-and from the comments under her videos always say the same thing-people can't believe she isn't in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I can't believe it either. My best to your family, Blue.

13. Here's a great country duet
One of these guys isn't usually associated with country music, but it seems to fit him just as naturally as his usual stuff
