WHAT is the deal with Bristol Palin and neck scarves?
Book Signing Fredericksburg, TX 7/8/11 High temp that day: 96

Book Signing Phoenix, AZ 7/9/11 High temp that day: 106

Los Angeles 8/9/11 High temp that day: 79

Is she trying to hide something? We already know she had, uh, 'medically necessary' plastic surgery. Is it a fashion statement? I did have a co-worker who rocked that look pretty often, but she was a tall woman in her 60's. It suited her.

Is this in style right now? Count me out--I can't even stand wearing stuff around my neck like that when it's cold.

3. It wouldn't do to have the "reformed" abstinence princess publicly rocking the love-bitemarks.
I wear scarves for the same reason.

I have better taste in scarves.

Not doubting you--just haven't seen it here in North Texas.

6. I have 15 scarves
Mind you, mine are more colourful. I just like them as accessories. Perhaps it's just the same for her?

8. Do you wear them when it's 90-100 degrees outside?

15. However, In two of the three pics
she's inside. She could have had air conditioning blowing on her for all we know. I doubt she had the jacket or scarf on when she wasn't inside.

Considering the other people in the first pic, I wouldn't be wearing clothes like that when it's 90+ outside, either. Way, way less.

Scarves do lend a different look than a necklace.

Hate her all you want for her beliefs, but it's juvenile to go after a perfectly normal/acceptable fashion.

16. I'm not hating, I am asking.
I don't see young women in my area wearing scarves, and I personally can't stand to have anything wrapped around my neck, but several people in this thread have informed me that, yes, it is fashionable right now, so there it is.

19. My mistake
I see so many posts on DU about non-issues that are made into major ones, and mistook yours for one.

I see lots of scarves around here, and not just in the colder months. Some are casual, some much more elegant. Mine are all colourful, so they add something to the boring clothing colours that seem to predominate in my area.

Cheers. :hi:

20. And I will grant you that the tone of my OP is snarkier than I feel now.
We are on our 40th consecutive day of 100+ temps, with no end in sight. I came across that most recent picture of Bristol in her scarf and something in me snapped. :(

when you can leave, too. She's jetsetting across the country.

That's a lot of heat. Hope it breaks soon!

11. I like scarves, too.
I can't wear costume jewelry. So, when I was in my twenties, I started acquiring scarves to wear with some of my business outfits, because I did not want to wear jewelry that broke my neck out in a rash.

I have more "good" jewelry these days, but I still like scarves.

12. Today's temperatures in Wasilla ranged 40-60F. She's probably just dressing as she did as a kid.
It's a losing political strategy to go after her: she has no political or policy significanxce; not one American in a thousand will care whether or not she wears scarves; and most people will think that attacking her is just mean-spirited

13. Half my closet is scarves.
They're a cheap way of making an old outfit look new, or hiding an unflattering neckline. I'm sure that's not her problem, but they're in style right now. Look at Portman in "Black Swan".
