Time to finish this debate! WHO is the best Doctor?

(I'm sure this is the obvious choice. I don't even know how there could be a debate.)

Baker was the best classic Doctor but I think Tennant is the best overall. Baker hung around too long, to the point where it was obvious that he was just punching a clock and no longer cared.

Allons-y!

9. He DID actually play the Doctor, for a few minutes at least
Edited on Tue Aug-09-11 11:13 PM by csziggy
In Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death. But there five Doctors in that series:
Rowan Atkinson (ninth Doctor)
Richard E. Grant (tenth Doctor)
Jim Broadbent (eleventh Doctor)
Hugh Grant (twelfth Doctor)
Joanna Lumley (thirteenth Doctor)

8. It's hard to pick, there have been so many
And each Doctor is so different:

The first Doctor, played by William Harnell

Patrick Troughton

John Pertwee - the first Doctor I had the pleasure of seeing.

Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor and longest running.

Peter Davidson - I never could forget his previous role as the veterinarian in All Creatures.

Colin Baker. I don't think I ever saw the year he was on.

Sylvester McCoy, another Doctor I don't remember seeing much if any.

Paul McGann was the Doctor in a TV movie - not a "real" Doctor!

Not my favorite Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, but he did usher in a new era for the series.

David Tennant brought a level of sexiness to the Doctor that had been missing before.

I just can't warm up to Matt Smith, though the plots have been good, especially this season.

I think Tom Baker is my favorite. If I were younger, I'd go for Tennant, but he's just a little young for me.

12. If you are going to include McGann then you may as well include this fellow

Peter Cushing from the even less canonical Dr. Who movies.

21. I was working from the Wikipedia list of "official" Doctors
I have never seen the McGann movie but I have seen the Peter Cushing one. IMO the Peter Cushing Doctor fits with the early, "elderly" Doctors. Since Tom Baker took the role, the Doctors have been more youthful in appearance, which is much more appealing.

10. *sigh* Tom Baker, Tennant, Hartnell, Pertwee, Eccleston, and the rest tie.
But yeah, if you're of a certain age, Tom Baker wins. Tom Baker always wins.

Also, Paul McGann was the worst, if you're keeping score.

27. I didn't think McGann was that bad
as all he had to work with was one TV movie. It usually takes a Doctor a season or more to grow into the role.

13. Of the old crew I like Baker best but have come to appreciate Davison
Christopher Eccleston is possibly the best ACTOR to play the Doctor. Tennant was very good in the role but his Rose obsession got annoying as hell.

I like Matt Smith but have not seen the latest crop.

15. I'm torn.
I grew up watching Baker, but Eccleston was amazing in my opinion. He was dark, cynical and had a bit of a mean streak. Loved that about his doctor. Tennant was just plain hot and series 4 with Catherine Tate was the best of the new crop I think.

17. Watching the Eccleston episodes online on Netflix got me back into Dr. Who
I remember when the Tom Baker episodes were on, but I never paid them much attention, because I didn't have a TV and saw Dr. Who only when I was visiting my boyfriend, who had become a fan while living in England on a study abroad program.

But a side note on Tom Baker: When I was in Denmark last month, Danish TV showed a British documentary (in English with Danish subtitles) about a parish priest (Church of England, not Roman Catholic) who decided to try living without money. This priest looked amazingly like the younger Tom Baker and obviously knew it, because he wore the same kind of hat and scarf (most of the documentary was filmed in the winter).

30. Tom Baker from the old
out of the new has to be Christopher Eccleston, Tenant started out strong and ended weak, while Matt Smith has to be the worse (he apparently thinks he is in a sitcom)
