My movie club went to "The Help" today......
LOVED IT. I gave it 3 starts out of 5 and I'm not that good at giving out stars.....

4. The book was fantastic! I'm going to the movie on Monday.
Plus, Oprah liked it enough to put it in her book club where it received great acclaim.

7. Read it - completely misses the historical points being made. And the characters are all pretty one
dimensional with no driving motivation behind their actions - other than Skeeter - who wants to get published. Starting with the maid - they NEVER would have risked their livelihoods - and lives - to tell these clearly identifiable stories. Stockett has no clue about the dangers the real maids faced merely to exist.

I can understand many whites - and blacks - falling for the false sentimentality and propagandish whitewash of the horrors that were so very real for blacks in that era. Don't be afraid to listen to voices trying to enlighten.
