So I get home yesterday to find that our Intertubes Service Provider (Cox Communications)...

... has had a SERIOUS problem resulting in sporadic service for only 6-8 hours a day -- and
not at a consistent time, either. The 6-8 hours might have started at 2 AM or 4 PM or at
8:30 AM, etc.
.
My housemates have been enduring this stoicly for 2-3 weeks. I asked the landlord about it
and he suggested giving me the account password and taking care of the problem myself. I
don't have a phone, so I asked my roommates (one at a time) to call. The first two were
reluctant -- but the third (a relatively younger guy) took on the challenge.
.
I have learned to my dismay (and even shock) that what seems like the vast majority of
people HATE to both admit their ignorance (in the non-judgmental sense of the word) OR
to volunteer to actually take some action.
.
I'm pretty confident in my abilities, which might help explain why I have no problem
admitting when I AM ignant. The most frequent example is the question in a classroom or
a business meeting -- "Does anyone have any questions?" Now, even when I've seen quite
a few puzzled looks DURING the explanation, it's very seldom that anyone raises their
hand (until I do). There IS a downside to this -- SOME profs or mgmt types actually
SAY, "It seems to be clear to everyone else." Whatever.
.
Taking action. These guys have endured this for 2-3 weeks, but when the younger guy
called the ISP's number, he got recorded instructions on how to EASILY fix the problem
(unbelievaby easy -- though I don't think it's a permanent fix, I do believe it will
easily fix the problem again and again until the provider finds a permanent fix from
their end -- if they ever do).
.
Sheesh. The lack of Intertubes had me experiencing cramps and profuse sweating and
rubbing my arms like a maniac.
.
I got a little glimpse into the unbearable hell of Kali's life.
.
But just a little. And for just a little while.
.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
.
 (how appropriate this smilie is)
.
.
.
.
.
.
Edited to add: Just ONE of the things that's cool about being able to access the Intertubes
from my home desktop is that I had forgotten some of my favorite websites to research/mine
for funny pictures (I had bookmarked them at home). So expect more (and more varied) twisted
stuff (that may or may NOT be a good thing).

1. My dear MiddleFingerMom!
I'm glad your younger roommate was willing and able to make the call...

He doesn't sound too hung up over his perceived abilities...

I too would be sweating profusely over any lack of my beloved intertubes!

Welcome home!

:hi:
