It wasn't really funny when it was popular around here years ago. Not because it was insensitive. Because it really isn't funny. But it is a bit of goofy DU history old-timers like me remember fondly.

You have to understand that the forums are read by thousands of people and you have to chose your words wisely when it comes to sensitive issues like dead troops.

Furthermore your post was titled "please forgive me," which would seem to indicate that you knew going into it that the post would not be well received by everyone. I am not ashamed of myself, but I sincerely apologize for my part in this exchange. Including calling you a moran. I don't know you. I reacted badly to what I perceived to be a unnecessarily condescending reply to what was meant to be a fun thread in a fun forum. Sometimes my inner redneck gets the best of me.

Since I don't know you, I don't know the cause of your reaction to all of this. I just want to say that I would never intentionally inflict pain on anyone already suffering. For any reason.

I don't get around here much anymore, so it is unlikely our paths will cross again. I have a great deal of respect for DU, its administrators and members. And especially for those who spend countless hours as volunteer moderators here. I hope we can respect them and each other and call a truce on this one.
