I need a list of movies that will drive me over the edge of depression
"Requiem for a Dream" is a movie that is extremely well done but man you feel awful at the end of it. There is no happily ever after for the 4 main characters, played amazingly well by Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly and Marlon Wayons.

1. Leaving Las Vegas
where Nicholas Cage decides to drink himself to death. Nothing redeeming about the movie at all.

6. I can't watch that movie very often - it's just super depressing
But it's probably Nicolas Cage's best acting performance ever. Everything else he's done pretty much sucked (ok Raising Arizona was good too)

Edited on Tue Aug-23-11 01:51 PM by alfredo
"Hunger"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061042/

The last two are excellent Bergman films. These movies were made after Bergman went through Primal Therapy. The emotions are raw.

"Barton Fink" is highly recommended for those who like to look for text illustration in the visuals. John Goodman is so good, so evil it is probably why he was cast as he was in "Brother Where Art Thou."

I rented that one evening. I don't think my girlfriend has forgiven me yet :)

To the OP, try Eraserhead. The content is extremely abstract which can be hard to follow. Doesn't matter since the film itself leaves an itchy feeling. Yeck :)

41. Days of Wine and Roses
Jack Lemmon, Lee Remick

Joe Clay is a top-notch public relations man. Anything a client wants Joe can arrange for them, whether it be dancing girls or an article in a prominent magazine. Part of the job however is drinking and Joe's ability to consume alcohol seems boundless. When he meets the very pretty Kirsten Arnasen, she prefers chocolate to alcohol but Joe has a solution to that in the form of a Brandy Alexander (made up of brandy and creme de cocoa). They eventually marry but their love is insufficient to prevent them from the downward spiral that alcohol brings to them. They try desperately to break the habit but continually relapse until only one of them manages to break free.
