Something you made that turned out better than expected. I once sewed myself a black swimsuit.

I used thick manmade stretchy fabric with a scrunchy wave to it that was probably skirt fabric. When I say thick I mean 1/3 of an inch thick. The elastic was 5/8 of an inch thick everywhere so it really fit well. It made me look thinner than I was it was so thick and substantial. It lasted 5 years or so, till I was 27. Took longer to dry than a regular swimsuit but that was fine because it would keep me cool when it was damp. I loved it.
