Non-native as you can tell - we moved to TX 8 years ago.

18. Cleburne is about 30 miles S SW of Ft. Worth in Johnson County.

Its claim to fame - as far as I am concerned - was a meeting of the Texas Farmers Alliance held here in 1886 which issued the "Cleburne Demands" not the Cleburne Suggestions or the Cleburn Most Humble Requests.
The Cleburne Demands called for regulation of banks, corporations and railroads, protections for laborers, and fair wages. A newspaperman working for the Cleburne Chronicle at around the same, Jim Hogg would later incorporate some of these demands into his platform when he ran for governor.

My Great Grandfather, Francis Delysle Holmes, was a populist who lived at Bluff Dale, Erath Conty, Tx (just west of here.) I grew up hearing my dad (who was born in 1918 in Bluff Dale) tell stories about the populists, and how the farmers of Texas fed the striking railroad workers, etc.

That is the Texas tradition that I come from . . . we've got to get it back.
