5. They buy all the propaganda |

You'll make less because of union dues Too many rules It's nearly impossible to move up the ladder Seniority trumps merit etc.
I've worked along side of non-union workers and heard all of this. I've shown them my check stub and explained how all of their points were wrong. They were quite impressed with my take-home pay, but didn't believe anything I said. They couldn't come up with a reason why I would lie to them, but they wouldn't change their mind.
I think it boils down to fear of change.

A glitchless one--- Ihope--- http://www.aflcio.org/joinaunion/why/uniondifference/uniondiff4.cfm. Pinto much food for thought there. Must expand unions! Sweden had 90% in unions last I heard.

afraid to stand up for themselves or others. It's hard to build up trust among workers who have been pitted against each other for so long. And once a person is willing to stand up for himself, he's afraid to do it if he's the only one doing it. Plus all the lies that Pintobean listed -- dues costing too much, a "third-party" involvement between the sacred bond of employer-employee, threats of firing, physical intimidation, and so on.

9. I was a member of SEIU Local #1099 back when I was a Medical Assistant. |
|
I estimate my pay was about 20% higher than before I joined the union. I also loved knowing we had a real pit bull in our corner if we needed one. Her attitude toward those she represented was: "Do your job, work hard, and make us proud. We'll take care of everything else."
I got cost-of-living raises twice a year and a clothing allowance.
As a medical provider now, I'm am no longer in a union, but I still support union labor 100%. When my old union went on strike against my former employer a few weeks back, I did a Madison, Wis, and sent the strikers a boat-load of pizzas to show my support.
Union: YES!
