3. Just people with blinding blue headlights. |
|
I used to be one of them. Wasn't told the headlights were blinding blue when I bought the car, didn't think it blinding enough to get rid of the car or change the entire system to accomodate different headlights. They glare less on wet and are distinctive and when I see them on other cars (I don't have them any more) I think "Oh, blue headlights like I used to have." They don't bother me and then they're gone.
Asshole? Well, maybe all the other ways I try to be considerate will offset it. I did love that car. My son drives it now. He's wonderful, young, poor as a churchmouse and doesn't have the money to either swap out the system or get another car.
Just poeple.

Whose dumbass idea was these evil things anyway? They fry out your retinas. Even after they pass you you still can hardly see for way too damn long. Yeah, there's a great idea - put in headlights that blind everyone driving toward you and risk them crashing into you or someone else head-on. Idiocy. Just barking idiocy.

23. There was talk of mandating them on new cars at one point. |
|
Along with daytime running-lights.
Brighter, more focused beams in headlights and always-on headlights both equal safer...or so the logic went. I wondered why that proposal went nowhere, they don't bother me and I was unaware they bothered anybody this much.

They sure do to a hell of a lot of us. It's scary as hell and dangerous as hell to not be able to see while driving because of them.

12. I heard on "Car Talk" (at least I think it was Car Talk... |
|
...it may have been some other news program)
that those lights when factory installed are typically fine. It's the folks that install their own that don't line them up properly, and that's why they seem so blinding.

I had to night drive an hour along a mostly 2 lane highway leading up to Lake Tahoe once -- it is hardcore, curvy mountain driving with zero road lighting. I faced car after car after care with those fucking headlights - they would rip around an oncoming curve and just hit me right in the eyes, temporarily blinding me -- which is not a good thing when you are on a turn with a 200' drop away on one side. :scared:  There were several times I just pulled the car into a turnout just to take a minute and calm my nerves.

21. Idiots that can't afford high-intensity discharge upgrades |

They replace the filament bulbs with HID units... except that the parabolic reflector is shaped for the dimensions of the filament, not the HID arc.
The placement, size, and shape are not perfectly interchangeable. A 0.060" change in the headlamp assembly can cause the beam to become diffuse instead of sharply focused... blinding oncoming drivers while simultaneously reducing their effective range.
Get yourself some SilverStar halogens if regular halogens don't work for you.
