How to make a Tea Party Cake
Next week is the local Democratic Party get-together. I've been asked to make a dessert, and I thought for a while...Patriotic Pastry Pizza? (Large sugar cookie with red frosting, white chocolate and blueberries on top.) Star Spangled Rice Krispie Treat? (Dye rice krispie treat batter in red, white and blue and make an American flag out of it.) Finally I came up with it: the Tea Party Cake! It's got red, yellow and brown batter all swirled together...

Red for the teabaggers' bloodlust
Yellow for what happens when you hit one with the truth
And the brown...well, you can figure that one out on your own.

I made one and it's really good, so that's what it's going to be.

Anyway...

1. Make a batch of white cake batter. Divide into three parts.

2. Put 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon and 10 drops red food coloring in one part and put it in the bottom of a greased, floured bundt pan.

3. Put the juice and zest from 1 lemon in the second part and put on top of the red batter in the pan.

4. Add 1/4 cup cocoa powder to the third part and pour it on top of the yellow batter. There won't be enough to make an even layer, so just make a ring of brown batter in the yellow batter.

5. Bake at 350 according to the directions in the recipe for the batter you used.

6. Cool, ice with chocolate icing and put nuts on top of the icing.

Serves as many as you can get out of it.
