1. I think they'll stop in the next decade or so.

The last time I went, I talked to one of the elephant "trainers" about their much touted elephant conservation program. They make a big deal about how they are helping conserve endangered elephants, but the trainer told me they never put any back in the wild. They are breeding elephants for the circus, keeping them chained up most of their lives and using that as a PR tool!

Their record of abuse, lack of veterinary care and infractions is becoming better and better known.

2. I remember seeing a documentary about elephants at circuses in the 1950s. They not only performed,

they also set up the tents and did manual labour. I wonder if they are still used to that extent?
