I Have Wa-a-a-ay Too Many Hotel Soaps and Mini-Shampoo Bottles... |
|
So I'm cleaning out the bathroom cabinets, and I stumble across a "file folder" box (you know the kind with a lid... for storing file folders) that's half full of mini soaps and mini shampoo bottles.
Some of them must be 8 years old (or older).
More soap and shampoo that I could possible use in the next 3 years.
What should I do with it?
WHY DO I COLLECT THEM TO BEGIN WITH?? Because they are "free"? Because they are "cute"? Because it would be nice to provide to overnight guests? (Yeah, Right... Like we're running a B&B, NOT!) As souvenirs? (That's what photos and gift shop shot-glasses are for.) Because they smelled nice and tropical? (Then why didn't I actually USE THEM?? I'm certainly not enjoying their refreshing scent if they are forgotten in a box.)
Am I The Only One With This Problem??

1. Give Them To Your Local Homeless Shelter |
|
Or shelter for battered women. They can always use stuff like that.

9. I found out myMom does that just last Thanksgiving |
|
I was amazed that she had never mentioned it. That's the kind of person she is.
She gives to a local battered women's shelter.

I'm in the same boat-it drives my SO nuts! I've always traveled for business and have learned to leave SOME hotel goodies behind, with the exception of Aveda products or some stuff from fancier hotels. I still have jars full of soaps, shampoos and lotions, but bring them to the gym now.

who used to work on cruise ships was going through her stuff before she moved out west, and she had an entire hat box full of those things, I mean full to the top! So no, you're not the only one.

I have a basket full of them in my bathroom . I just can't seem to throw away stuff that "someone might need someday"
Occasionally I give some of them to a grandchild. They seem to like to use them
The homeless shelter idea is great

11. a switch from your regular shampoo |
|
The guy who cuts my hair recommends briefly switching shampoos (maybe once every ten days) from my usual brand. These little bottles come in handy. It's the fancy little shoe-shine kits I have no use for! So why do I continue to take them?! And the homeless would look at me funny if I tried to give the kits to them. "Yeah, right" they'd say.

the hotel I stay at in Montreal has toothbrushes with toothpaste already on 'em! You just wet and brush. You can't blame a guy for taking those. They're great!!

13. Until I read about giving them to shelters |
|
I was going to suggest selling them on Ebay as collectibles. We saw an appraisal program not long ago where a woman had a box full of soaps. The appraiser was going apeshit over them, I suppose you could sell them then donate the cash.

14. You might save a few soaps for yourself... |
|
They're nice for keeping drawers, suitcases, and closets smelling fresh.
