NO STICKS ALLOWED ON PROTEST SIGNS IN OHIO!
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 06:41 PM by in_cog_ni_to
Sorry for yelling, but I wanted you to see this important information that I just saw on another forum. You CANNOT have a stick on your protest sign if you're taking one to the Columbus rally. I didn't know that so I thought I should spread the word. :hi:

2. KICK!
Ya'll come to Columbus...just don't bring your sticks. (Or if you must bring sticks, leave them in your hotel room!).

It's silly, I know...

4. LOL...
I had one on my "Beware, Bush uses weapons of mass deception" sign when the chimp came for his infamous Union Ternminal speech in Cincinnati, prior to the war. A police officer told me it was illegal and before I could speak (and get myself in trouble) people formed a barrier around me and I was able to slip away and continue my protest, stick and all.

6. Fade to Monty Python ...

-----

RSM : Right! Bananas! How to defend yourself against a man armed with a banana. (to first man) Here, you, take this. (throws him a banana) Now, it's quite simple to defend yourself against the banana fiend. First of all, you force him to drop the banana, next, you eat the banana, thus disarming him. You have now rendered him helpless.

Second Man : Suppose he's got a bunch.

RSM : Shut up!

Fourth Man : Supposing he's got a pointed stick.

RSM : Shut up. Right now you, Mr Apricot.

First Man : Harrison.

RSM : Harrison, Mr. Harrison. Come at me with that banana then. Come on attack me with it. As hard as you like. Come on. (Harrison moves towards him rather half-heartedly) No no no. Put something into it for God's sake. Hold it, like that. Scream. Now come on, come on...attack me, come on, come on (Harrison runs towards him shouting; RSM draws a revolver and fires it, right in Harrison's face; Harrison dies immediately, falling to the ground; RSM puts gun away and walks to banana) Now...I eat the banana. (He does so; the rest of the class gather around Mr Harrison's body)

All : You shot him. He's dead...dead. He's completely dead. You've shot him.

RSM : (finishing the banana) I have now eaten the banana. The deceased Mr Apricot is now disarmed.

Second Man : You shot him. You shot him dead.

RSM : Well, he was attacking me with a banana.

Third Man : Well, you told him to.

RSM : Look, I'm only doing me job. I have to show you how to defend yourselves against fresh fruit.

Fourth Man : And pointed sticks.

RSM : Shut up.

9. Should that be contested?
Are sticks weapons, or illegal? Who is saying this?

First, the take away your sticks, then they take away your signs?

This sounds like "free speech zone" stuff.

13. So then ...
those who come with sticks on their signs are doing a double-protest?

I wonder who will? I can't imagine how a presumption of guilt can be tolerated if you go by the constitution.

It's like saying, "no underwear" you might use the elastic to strangle a cop.

14. No sticks or cardboard tubes
People---- its been like that for years----geee whiz-
I can tell who's never been to a protest before.

Think of it as a good thing --if sombody comes along and beats the crap out you--with a stick---and we know we didnt bring any--than you got yourselves an "agent provocutor".

On the other hand if you get smacked with your own stick--arent you going to feel kinda---well --ya know--

11. There is precedent, if I remember correctly...
"Sticks and stones may crack our nuts,
but signs give only paper cuts."

Or something like that. :eyes:

15. Watch For The Camera's Too
I just left Columbus three weeks ago after 8 years there. I attended many protests. They have cops taking pictures of potential rabble rousers. Just watch.

16. Take pictures back of them--
you need to document any problems. I wouldn't go without a cellphone-preferably one that takes pictures.
