Insidious bastards
I just came from the Orbitz site and noticed for the first time that their banner now boasts this familiar message:
Mission Accomplished
Now, I don't know if it's always been there, but I'm suspicious since I just got my most recent Citibank bill which includes a message to "Support President Bush's call for" --a worthy cause, no doubt, but you get the idea. I think it's time to watch for and react to these corporate attempts to stealth campaign for Bush...letters, calls, etc.
(BTW if anyone knows whether Orbitz was running Mission Accomplished before the Bushman did his top gun thing, please let me know so I don't send them an angry letter in vain.)

1. Should I buy this?
Dear Orbitz Member,

Thank you for contacting Orbitz.

Thanks for your recent e-mail regarding the Orbitz Web site. We
appreciate your feedback and sincerely appreciate your taking the time
to write us.

Yes, the 'Mission Accomplished' is the new feature in our Orbitz
website. However, it is not a political statement.

We value you as a customer and look forward to serving you again in the
future.

Sincerely,

Nancy

I now notice that you run the message Mission Accomplished in your
banner. Has it always been there? Or is this a political statement?
And if it's political, does it mean that you agree with the
commander-in-chief's assessment of the situation in Iraq despite the
daily toll of American deaths there? Sorry, but I have to know before
I continue doing business with you.

2. Fidelity Investments had a pro-tax cut message on my May 2003 statement
They said I should call Congress and advocate a dividend tax cut. I never wrote them the response that they deserved--a kick to the head.
