Chancellor makes surprise visit to protest
By JONDI GUMZ
Sentinel staff writer

SANTA CRUZ — <snip>

Students involved in ‘Tent University Santa Cruz’ say their goals are democratization and free speech. About 60 students met Friday night to review a list of demands hammered out Thursday, to be presented to UCSC administrators. Here is the list:

Schedule a meeting each quarter for dialogue between students, the chancellor and other key administrators.
Rebuild humanities programs that have been cut.
Give students a seat on hiring and firing committees.
Allow students to decide between letter grades or narrative evaluations for courses they take.
Designate the entire campus a 24-hour free speech zone (and providing bathroom facilities to make it possible).
Drop the use of ‘pain compliance’ tactics against protesters.
Drop all charges and campus sanctions against those arrested, and offer a formal apology. <snip>
