I received this today from < ContestTheVote.org >. Please consider signing.
Despite our efforts and Senator Barbara Boxer’s courageous stand back in January, we still do not have legally elected leadership in our country.
The members of www.ContestTheVote.org are frustrated with the continued loss of life and waste of America’s assets in Iraq. As a result, we have decided to support our troops by creating awareness of their plight. We are working with war resistors like Navy Petty Officer Third Class Pablo Paredes who, during his court martial proceedings next week, intends to put the war on trial.
Despite positive recommendations from his Navy chaplain and staff psychiatrist, the Navy’s investigating officer has recommended denying Pablo Paredes’ request for Conscientious Objector status. As a result, Paredes and his supporters are now preparing for his court martial defense on May 11, 2005, as well as developing support activities from May 10th to the 13th. Pablo is facing a year in military prison as well as other punishment for his decision to follow his conscience and not support an illegal and immoral war.
It was your signature that helped to persuade Senator Barbara Boxer to stand alone in the Senate against approval of the Ohio votes. Now we have another important opportunity for you to show your power. Please sign the petition calling for the U.S. Navy to discharge FC3 Pablo Paredes as a conscientious objector. Together we can show the Navy where the American people stand on the Iraq War. We support our troops who are compelled by their humanity to speak out against the unethical occupation of Iraq. Sign the Petition. Put the Iraq War on trial.
