Fax DeLay, contact Republican legislators TODAY to save Social Security |
|
Privatization = defunding Social Security. Help stop this crime! deepbluehawaii
Our representative Neil Abercrombie gave a great presentation tonight on what is going on in Washington and what we can do to help.
It comes down to this- privatization will not help with the solvency problem, it will make it worse because we will have to borrow money to make up the shortfall. As money is diverted into private accounts that would otherwise be paying current beneficiaries who contributed THEIR whole lives...it is a backdoor plan to defund and destroy social security, period.
When asked what we could do about it, Rep Abercrombie said that this is not a grassroots movement from the people but a top-down plan from the extremists. He said that the rank and file republican legislators are very nervous about losing in 06 because of this, and the only leverage we have is to mount a serious effort to communicate with Tom DeLay's office that we know what they are trying to do and we will not have it. Anyone you know who has a republican legislator, ask them to send a very clear message that we will not let them take social security apart as they are now trying to do.
He also said that we must make this clear to our governor as Lingle communicates with the Admin, and if she feels heat she will let them know that.
This is the only way we can stop this theft.
There are lots of other actions that will actually help the solvency problem, which is not nearly as bad as it is being portrayed anyway. Among these is increasing the cap on social security from the 90,000. now. Increasing the cap to 400,000. per year will solve the problem 100%, even allow us to decrease the contribution of the rest of us to 6%.
Tom DeLay's contact information: (fax is best) Congressman Tom DeLay Majority Leader Office H-107 The Capitol Washington, DC 20515 fax (202)225-5117
Please distribute as widely as you can, and please, please write to Mr. DeLay and let him know we will not stand for this.
