Poll question: What areas do you care the most about
I want to do an informal poll--there is discussion about possibly breaking into areas of concentration for people

I for one know more about GLBT issues and religion

Others know more about voting or health care, etc.

Check which area you feel most knowledgable about, and you don't have to be an expert

And if you don't see your area, post to the thread

4. That's a difficult decision!
I voted for Voting technology because until we can get that straightened out, the Pubs will maintain control of everything and there's NO CHANCE of fixing anything else!

My second concern is Healthcare, because that affects everyone to some degree as well. I admit, because I'm 61, I see it as affecting me more now than when I was 20, but there are so many younger people who can't afford any insurance, and the drug companies are weilding the magic wand and charging anything they damn well please. Those who can't afford to pay for health care, cose all of us, because their cost of free (mandatory emergency care) treatment is simply added to the premiums charged to those who can.

8. It seems incredible to me that on this liberal Democratic board
Labor issues only get one vote. And this is despite the fact that so-called free trade, which is at heart a Labor issue, is on all our minds. Has the Democratic party really drifted away from what used to be its core issue/constituency? Economic justice has got to be one of the pillars of the party platform or we run the risk of losing focus entirely. Economic justice, civil rights, the right to an education and the right to be let alone, the need for honest and transparent government are the basic principals from which all else flow.

11. The problem is that they are ALL Critical
Edited on Wed Jul-13-05 06:01 PM by lwfern
It's not that the party has drifted away from it.

I think the vote reflects attitudes that other things (voter reform) may have to be fixed before we have power to address labor issues, or that things like the environmental damage will poison us all, and once damaged, may be permanent.

Or it could just be that the people who answered are just marking their areas of expertise.

12. corporate influence in government
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 12:27 AM by me b zola
I believe that corporate influence in government is so important because it is the root cause of problems in so many of the issues that you mentioned in your poll.

~healthcare

~labor/unions

~voting/elections

~environment

~economy

~foreign policy

It even, I believe, is the force that divides the Democratic Party, and our Party must be strong if we are ever going to have the power to address any/all of the issues mentioned in your poll.

edited to include issues related to corporate influence :D

14. Other: Animal Rights
Oh yeah, it's very political these days since there are many heavily funded lobby groups paid to destroy the mainstream animal protection message.

Probably would come under environmental, since the *tree and bunny huggers* are usally lumped together :)

Also, adding to my Other vote: All of the above!

Good poll

:patriot:

20. I also have numerous issues.
I take part in on-line "actions" promoting animal protection legislation, but also environmental, voting rights, political actions (like DSM, PDA and opposing RW judges) and reproductive rights. Am I forgetting anything?

18. Religion is my big interest
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 07:04 PM by Heaven and Earth
The Separation of Church and State was America's gift to the world. I'd like to keep it that way, thank you very much. Anyway, the religious right is doing the equivalent of drinking from a poisoned chalice. Their sin, the very thing they fear the most in others, will be increased immeasurably the more power they gain, and they will give themselves over to idolatry, and turn from the Lord.

23. I voted wrong.
I am most concerned about e-voting technology and election fraud. But I know more about foreign policy -- development issues mostly. Population, economics, globalization, millennium development goals, indigenous peoples... Law of the Sea. Some environment stuff. Treaties.

Not really foreign policy, actually. I guess it's really "other".

24. religion, but health care, and foreign policy
are also passions of mine-

i'm an ex fundie, so i have 'bible knowledge' and first hand experience of the 'cultic' influence-

Yet, i've also been on medicaid, and public assistance- and no longer have any health benefits, or hope of them- so that is ALSO a passion-

And i believe our 'policies' are what have ignighted the world, and duped 'america' into thinking 'we' rule the world- hence, foreign policy and a 'culture of life' for ALL the world, is a passion as well-

including, almost every other thing on the list :dilemma:

As long as they can steal elections and get away with it,
we're pretty much screwed.
