please urge your senators and reps to travel to Crawford...
...and support Cindy Sheehan! Here's one of the letters I sent:

Dear Senator Feinstein,

I'm writing to urge you to travel to Crawford, Texas, to publicly support Cindy Sheehan's call for George Bush to explain himself and to answer her questions about the death of her son in Iraq.

Every justification offered by the Bush admininstration for the invasion and occupation of Iraq has thus far proven to be an elaborate, and fraying, tissue of lies. Service men and women have died, and continue to die, in support of those lies. Their deaths have been for nothing, their sacrifice wasted, their lives thrown away in the most cynical manner imaginable. This is a national tragedy.

The president's refusal to meet Mrs. Sheehan and answer her questions reflects that arrogant and callous cynicism. I urge you to support her quest for accountability, but more than that, I ask that you join her in Crawford. Use your voice to demand answers on behalf of all Californians-- and all Americans-- to the questions that Ms. Sheehan has raised. Cindy Sheehan speaks for all of us, and the president's refusal to respond affects all Americans.

Respectfully yours,
/x/

1. Don't mean to be a bummer post
but this dog thinks the politicians need to stay out of this one. It gives it much more credibility if this comes from the hearts and minds of US citizens.

The politicians only give the other side fodder for more critical talk. If they want to send a letter of support. But that is just this dog's opinion....

6. I agree!
Politicians don't belong here. It's between BUSH the PEOPLE and the MEDIA now. And right now we are watching Bush and the media to see if they are gonna play fair or not.

8. Urge them
to investigate the impeachable crimes in the DSM and urge them to investigate the criminal and treasonous leaking of Plame's name and their violation of their sacred trust.

BUT this is a peoples' movement and it's not about them. Don't urge them to go. Urge them to see if this president has committed high crimes and misdemeanors.

3. No, no, no. The
politicians should stay away from her for fear they may pollute her with their filthy stench of opportunism. Cindy, at this moment, is pure and politically impartial. All she's asking for are answers to her questions from *.

4. exactly
Dragging partisan politics into this thing of beauty would be a horrible horrible mistake.
If the evening news broadcasts do another story on Camp Casey, and instead of Cindy's face the country sees a bunch of politicians (because that's who the networks would show, not her), it's all over.

7. I disagree....
I think Bush will simply choose to ignore Cindy Sheehan as the path of least resistance, or at least the path of least political impact. However, it becomes progressively harder for him to do that if members of congress join her call for accountability, and the cost of stonewalling becomes progressively higher. I didn't mean to suggest that they should camp out and steal the spotlight, but rather that they should go to Cindy, express their support in front of the cameras and microphones, and add their voices to those demanding an accounting from the BFEE.

Ultimately, if real change is going to come out of Cindy's vigil, two things must happen. First, she must galvanize a groundswell of grassroots opposition to the war against Iraq. That is beginning to happen. Second, the opposition political party must align itself with that movement. That is absolutely critical, and with only a few exceptions, it is not happening yet. I want my reps to know where I stand today, and what I'll be thinking about where THEY stand the next time I vote.

10. Exactly!
I don't know if they should go to Crawford, but they need to join the will of the Democratic Party and start speaking for us, not their corporate donors.

Cindy has been petitioning congress for quite some time, and we should be joining our voices together to demand they do their jobs when they get back from vacation.

Here's one of Cindy's letters to congress "Dear Congress Weinies"

Dear Elected Officials,

When are you all going to take back your constitutional authority from the maniac in the White House?
If you all won’t protect us, who willl?

We are seriously screwed and you all sit back and let the administrative branch take away our freedoms and foist criminals on us: people with no humanity or regard for our American Constitution or humanity. People like Alberto Gonzales and John Negroponte and most recently, John Bolton...torturers and murderers, to name a few. You in fact are complicit in stealing our freedoms by extending the un-Constitutional and un-Patriotic Patriot Act. Have you all lost your minds?

Please protect us. President John F. Kennedy said (1962): Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. I travel the country and I see a revolution coming...it won’t be violent, it will be a peaceful revolution.

We don’t want to lower ourselves to the level of our government. People are sick and tired of what’s going on in America today. We are wondering where we really live.

We have no checks and balances in this government. We don’t even have a media to tell us the truth. Please tell me what recourse do We the People have? May we impeach George and Dick and all of the lying cabinet? You all don’t follow the Constitution, why should we?

Take back your Constitutional power. Come back rested from your vacations and ready to do your jobs. Earn the obscene amount of money you make. Remember who you work for: your constituents, not the lobbyists, or George Bush.

Cindy Sheehan

9. I think the pols should (physically) stay away from this...
...philosophically and in the media, even on the floor of Congress once they're back in session, they can support her all they want.

This began and should remain a populist, not a partisan, effort.
