How can DU better notify people in a call to action?
I am still seeing people on DU ask "Where is there a vigil tonite?" for example,( re: Cindy) as they said they saw a post about it and didn't know where to look. Of course it is TOMORROW nite, and it has been posted a few times where to look; but obviously, some people are not getting the message. We need to do a better job of letting people know these things. Kicking a post to the greatest just doesn't seem to be enough.
Maybe a more visible area on the home page about current actions we DU'ers can look at FIRST before cruising the discussion sites? Just thinking out loud.

1. I suggest a Upoc group (sends text messages to cellular phones)

Upoc lets you send text messages to all your mobile friends and start mobile groups, so you can send one message that everyone gets. You can start a group for your friends, another for your family -- as many as you need to stay connected.

Most cellular carriers use this company to handle their SMS chat groups.

I'm subscribed to FascismFile a moderated group, which occasionally carries news from DU. The moderator tends to be a little too prolific for my taste, sometimes generating as many as 10 messages per day:

Free text-information service tracking the daily disinformation and slippery slope to fascism.

Here is a great un-moderated (but low traffic) group:

The Resistance
Resistance helps progressive activists stay in touch at protests, and keep in touch between them!

3. I think the Activist Headquarters needs to be organized into folders
Have folders for LTTE's, petitions, events, etc.

There could also be one about certain projects that members of the DU Activist Corps are working on.

Right now, there is so much clutter in there that it is easy to get lost or to find what you were looking for.
