Police arrest five anti-war protesters, two injured, in march
Police arrested five anti-war protesters, and two suffered minor injuries from the police response, when 80 to 100 people marched through the city's Oakland neighborhood toward an Army recruiting station Saturday morning.

The Pittsburgh Organizing Group planned the demonstration and a spokesman for that group, David Meieran, accused police of responding with "inappropriate and excessive force."

Meieran claimed some protesters were pepper sprayed _ including a small child _ and Tasered, and said a 68-year-old woman who was not resisting was bitten by a police dog. <snip>

1. Don't know that much about this particular
incident but it sure sounds familiar. Is this the new tactic. Instead of freedom of assembly we have the freedom to be brutalized by police. What kind of a dickhead would I feel like if I had taken my kids to a protest to see democracy in action and they got pepper sprayed?
Intimidation of the highest order seems to me.

3. Damn I just had a Vietnam flash back
The Oakland I am thinking about is in the SF Bay area -- and it was a huge intake point for Army draftees during the Vietnam era.

This induction center was also the major focus of anti-war demonstrations and the cops would go berserk and beat the protesters.

4. I hate the "failure to disperse" charge.
People can't turn themselves into vapor.

If they go north and so do others, should that be a crime?
